My Involvement in the South Asian Student Association
Cultural Group A club that I was heavily involved in known as South Asian Student Association (SASA). When I joined this club it felt like family away from the home where everyone gathered up for social event to any cultural event. The club didn’t have just members that you see on an event. This club had become your daily life where you see mostly every member gathered up at one place where they do their homework, socialize and eat. Everyone in this club would help each other if they have any questions and give the right advice. This club was like a family who shared common norms and rules. Now this club is broken apart where no one has time besides board meetings or club meetings where they discuss about upcoming events. Even for the events everyone needs to be personally invited and also motivate them to come out join in the cultural events. The members have become very less compare to last years. Also now it doesn’t feel like a family which it used to be. To keep old member a new rule has been added which is Idiosyncrasy credit which is helping or volunteer for events set up and clean up. The roles that exist in the group were formal roles like president, vice president, treasurer, social chair, thon chair, liaisons, etc. The formal roles are basically the board members of the club who plan, execute events so that the members of the club are satisfied and have fun away with people with similar taste. These roles are the basic roles of the club which were created by the president and vice president of the club along with the professor assigned to the group.
The rules or norms exist in the group were simple like paying the dues which will cover them for the whole semester as an active member of the club. Few other norms were meeting at the certain place every day where everyone gathers for socializing and homework. Few rules were like if you are a board member than you have to turn in your weekly reports to the vice president which looks over it. If you don’t
