A leadership style refers to the mode at which a leader dictates policies, procedures and decides what as well as how goals are to be achieved within the organization (Joan M. 2007). I determined that my leadership style after taking the analysis quiz is the style of a problem solver. This leadership style primarily includes making decisions inside the company that come up with ways to resolve issues. For example, the sales of the organization are at an all-time low for the first and second quarters of the current the year. A decision needs to be made as to how to increase sales based on such a leadership style (problem solver) in order to increase sales during the third and fourth quarters of the current year. …show more content…
A1a. Strengths
The first strength is having such a leadership style; stakeholders will always have the belief as well as assurance that their head or leader in fixing issues inside the company.
The second, strength is having such a leadership styles that always tries to enhance the operations inside the company.
The leader pinpoints as well as removes risks as well as obstacles while at the same time, tries to make great accomplishments that will move the companies objectives forward for the companies.
A1b. Weaknesses
The first, weakness of such a problem solver leadership style is that a leader who has such a leadership type will only be able to solve issues inside the company but will not be in a position or ability in creating the arrangement or guidance of the staff.
The second, weakness of this leadership styles is that it occasionally ends up in a broad and time consuming team meeting and committee work. Therefore, nothing will ever be resolved.
A2. Comparison of Leadership Styles
My leadership style; problem solver, primarily includes the searching for ways to resolve issues inside the company, the developer leadership style is similar to the problem solver leadership style because these two styles both look at finding solutions to the problems regarding the …show more content…
company.
The leadership style of the director primarily includes assisting staff as well as giving staff directions of what needs to be accomplished inside the company. They are different because the problem solver leadership style only focuses on solving problems and not looking at ways to improve how the company operates. This style is similar to the problem solver leadership style because this style does also focus on providing workers with directions and find ways to solve any upcoming problems that might occur.
The director leadership style is different from the problem solver leadership style because it only focuses on what needs to be accomplished and fails to look at how to solve problems in the future. In addition, the director leadership style is different from the problem solver leadership style because this leadership styles primary objective is to solve issues inside the company. This style does not look at what is required to be completed and does not dictate what needs to be completed in order for company to reach their goals.
When you compared it to leadership styles the problem solver and the director you will find that the problem solvers only objective is to help find solutions to problems inside the company. As compared to the leadership style of the director, the only objective is to search for ways to give guidance to staff so that they have the ability and the direction they need to complete what is required for the company.
In addition, comparing the leadership style of the developer, which is focused on enhancing the systems as well as the way the company, operates. So when you compare these two styles to my leadership style which is the problem solver leadership style you find that the first style which is the problem solver dictate what needs to be completed inside the company, as to the director, this style dictates and guides staff on what is required to be completed inside the company. On the other hand, the developer searches for way to boost the system along with the way company operates.
A3. Leadership Style Discussion
Having the understanding of the leadership styles allows the company leaders to come up with various systems, which will improve the way the company operates. In addition, understanding styles provides guidance to staff in order to obtain company objectives. My leadership style would be appropriate in a different situation because the problem solver leadership style is an easy way to eliminate problems inside the company.
The problem solver style finds ways to resolve issues.
This style does not dictate tasks, but finds non-evasive ways to solve problems now and in the future. It is not necessary to adjust their leadership style depending upon the competencies of the employees. Implementing the problem solver leadership style will wipe out any potential conflicts or doubt in judgment because this style finds ways to deal with complex problems that could occur that require critical decision-making to resolve them. This style is flexible when it comes to any situation that could occur in the present or in the future. This is the reason why it does not require any adjustment by the
company.
It is very important that you understand the styles of people around you. Learning the attributes, strengths, and weaknesses of other individuals will help a leader to become outstanding in their ability to lead. It will also allow the leader to work with a team/group more effectively. It is also important to learn personalities so that you can present ideas in a way that will not cause negative reactions. In addition, knowing these individual or individuals will give the leader a greater ability to present ideas in a way that will result in a positive reaction. Knowing the personalities helps leaders to respond, instead of reacting, to those who show a different style.
Understanding styles gives a better understanding of the problem solver, developer, and director leadership. Each style has characteristic that will make a leader outstanding.
The problem solver leadership style-Has to ability to resolve any issues that could occur with each leadership style.
The director leadership style-Pinpoints the objectives the need to be completed. This style provides guidance to employees so that the staff has the capability and the tools that required to by the company in order to be completed.
The developer leadership style-Looks at the many ways to improve the system along with the way the company operates. A style like this can present many ideas to the different leadership styles in which a vote would take place in order for the improvements to take place.
Examining the three styles, we see that the problem solver can find ways to solve the various issues that come with each individual or individuals’ leadership styles. Next, the director style looks at how he can enhance the system and looks at the various ways projects required to be completed. By providing different kinds of assistance to staff that have different leadership styles. By doing this, it helps bring different approaches and ideas on how to complete projects on time in order to reach the goals the company has put into place.
Lastly, the developer leadership style really finds ways to make the company’s operations better by focusing on improving how the company system is managed.
When you have an understanding of all three leadership styles, it can assist in knowing various ways to resolve problems. The problem solver, the director, and the developer are more effective leaders when they understand the different angles available in order to solve the issues that come with different leadership styles.
A4.Problems
The specific problems in a work group include the following:
Leadership styles
Leadership style cause problems with goals
A group of people working together with different leadership styles could cause leadership style conflict among the group. This is a result of the differences in leadership styles of the director. The director leadership style tries to pinpoint the objectives that need to be followed in order for the project to be completed. The problem is due to the leadership style of the director because everybody is going to be pulled in different directions.
The reason this could happen is that when you have different leadership styles working together it can cause conflict within the group. As a result, no one in the group wants to hear the ideas of the other people in the team or group. As a result, the project will not be completed on time or not at all. The goals of the workgroup would not be accomplished.
As a result, when you have various strong leadership styles working together nobody want to back down from what is the right way to proceed with completing the project. When this happens, decision-making conflicts will arise among the workgroup. This is the result of the differences in leadership styles of the problem solver and the developer leadership styles. Each problem is due to these specific leadership styles because the problem solver looks at ways to resolve problems within the workgroup.
However, in this case the problem solver who will just create more problems due to their multiple ideas being presented to the group. On the other hand, the developer looks at ways to improve the company’s systems and how they function. In this case, the developer creates a problem on how to enhance the system due to irreconcilable differences among the group on how things should be done. The result is that everyone’s leadership style when it comes to decision making is the right one and this will keep the company from moving quickly to solve problem that may need solutions now in order to remain competitive with the competition.
In addition, this problem is the result of having strong personalities with different leadership styles would cause member of the group to not trust the decisions and be unwilling to work together. These two scenarios have identified the problem that could occur inside the workgroup.
A4a.Overcoming Problems
There are two solutions to these problems mentioned above include the following:
• The first solution to the first problem mentioned above would be to have all of the approaches to be presented in a group workshop. As a result, all the team would have input into the solution. The team having input would ensure a greater effort would be put forward to implement the solution.
• The second solution to the second problem mentioned above would be to bring in outside mediation. The team would develop a feeling of trust to the solution because an outsider was able to bring fresh ideas to the situation. It would also result in a commitment to the solution.
These two solutions mentioned above will help to solve any potential problems regarding the different leadership styles. They will also solve the problems that could arise with strong personalities that come with different leadership styles. The team or group workshop can also chose a leadership style that will provide the most suitable solutions to problems within the organization (Louis E. & David L. 2009). When this happen the problem mention in the previous sections will be overcome by the solutions that were discussed. This will cause a positive outcome for the company.
A5.Synergies
When you have a single leader that has a director leadership style that looks at providing directions for assignments for the team or members of the group provides confidence within the team because this person is task oriented. In addition, assuming that you have a developer collaborating with a problem solver, and you have the task-oriented leader and the solution-oriented leader working side by side, this will help to guarantee that the objectives of the company will be met.
These dynamics makes for increase and better productivity because the task-oriented leaders puts together the strategies, plans, etc. to make sure the objectives are accomplished while the solution oriented leader makes sure the business relationship is still in on piece and the person is driven to achieve the objective.
Two additional advantages include the following:
• This company can bring skills together that will help accomplish their goals.
• The company can accomplish more with having three people with different skill sets work together. As opposed to having, one person with a single skill set work on a project by himself or herself.
In short, having three skill sets working together will accomplish more. As opposed to, having one person with one skill set will not accomplish as much when it is only single people working on a task by themselves. When you have more than one person who brings three various kinds of skills makes the company run in a synchronized fashion which makes everything run more smoothly. In addition, the work will be completed quicker which will result in the company increasing productivity and profits. The problem solver and a developer working together will enhance the total operation of the company, therefore giving them an advantage over competitors.
A5a. Increasing Productivity
In order to increase productivity, it was determined that having three team members with outstanding skill sets would increase productivity for the company. Using the strengths and attributes of these members will increase productivity by shortening the time it takes to solve problems and getting on top of potential problems. Developing better ways to meet the objectives and to develop a plan to eliminate risks/ waste, and overcome barriers will increase productivity.
These strengths and attributes include the following:
• One person in the group would have problem solving skills to resolve issues inside the company.
• The second member of the group would have the skills to boost the way the company operates.
• The third member of the group would have the skills to find and eliminate risks and barriers all at once. This member has the ability to try to achieve the goals that will assist in moving the company’s goals ahead regarding the company.
Furthermore, bringing together three members with three various types of skills will be better than creating a group to handle these situations, which could take too much time. Cutting down on time it takes to solve issues gives the company an advantage over its competition. These kinds of advantages result in an increase in productivity within the company. All of these skills working together will bridge the gap between the two leadership styles. Using the outstanding skills of the three members will increase growth and productivity for the company.
