My Learning Style
Everyone has different styles in which they learn. Some are auditory, some visual and some require hands on or kinesthetic. In taking the Learning Style Inventories, my results concluded that I am an auditory learner. According to The Center for New Discoveries in Learning, 2012 “If your highest preference is auditory, you prefer to learn by listening and often recall the words you 've heard in your mind. If you are taking a written test, this tends to slow you down because you are speaking to yourself as you read”.
There are several reasons that I am attending college. The first reason is I want to set the best example possible for my daughter to follow. I want her to know that it is never too late to better yourself. Another reason is when I finally retire from the military, I plan to attend a Culinary University and open my own restaurant.
I have always considered myself as a kinesthetic learner. The results of the two Learning Style Inventories confirmed that. My results from The Center for New Discoveries in Learning, 2012. Retrieved from http://www.howtolearn.com/learning-styles-quiz showed the following:
0% Visual, 33% Auditory, 67% Kinesthetic.
So what does each style mean? If your highest percentage is visual, you prefer to think in pictures or movies. This style is most effective when you want to create and recall images when you read, or when you are taking a written test. Visual learners tend to be neat and organized and their learning style preference tends to most closely match most educational and company working environments. If your highest preference is Kinesthetic, you prefer to learn by doing things by the “Hands On” approach. This meaning that you need to have it and hold it and take it apart to figure out how something works.
