My Migration To Great America
As a kid I moved around frequently and had to keep on changing schools because my parents could not decide where to stay. Until, they finally found a wonderful place to settle and call it home. We lived in California in a valley called Santa Clara. Before I came to Santa Clara I was from India where I was born and raised till the age of six, I was raised in a middle class family with only one sibling which was my little brother who was just born, When we arrived to America we did not live in Santa Clara we lived in San Jose which later we moved to Sacramento, but in these two areas we moved often due to my dad’s job. Growing up in Santa Clara it was great except watch television was never my choice of relaxing and having fun. Going to the park …show more content…
We went in my friend’s older brother’s car which was a SUV that had a Stunning flashy lights and the paintjobs was pure white like snow in the winter. The inside of the SUV smelled like mint and with a pinch of pepper. During the drive to Great America I was thinking what will we see first and experience. As we came closer to Great America I could see the rides from the parking lot that were so high into the skies and the twists and turns the rides went. We finally got in line to buy our tickets and we all decided to get the fast lane because we did not want to stand in line like everybody else. The weather was phenomenal it was sunny with few clouds with about eighty degree outside. Mostly every one wore casual clothing with shorts on because it was almost about to be summer and some wore hats to protect their eyes from the sun. The moment we stepped into Great America I hear all the screams and chants that everyone is making that are on the rides of the rollercoasters and see kids running around with toys and stuff animals they won as a prize. I could smell the wonderful food from miles away that were meant to be eaten. We decided to go on the small rides which were supposed to for kids and finish our day with the big thrilling and super-fast rollercoaster that twist, turn, and twirl. The small rides were just rides that you sit down and it takes you around a circle or up and down on a rollercoaster not too fast and not to slow. But as we finished riding the small ones we went on this ride that is a huge pole, going straight up into the heavens. The name of this ride was called “Drop Tower: Scream Zone” it was two hundred twenty-four feet high. Everyone was coming out of ride excited or terrified about what they just experienced. We got on the ride clueless of what we are going to experience and in a matter of minutes I was

We drove in a bright emerald minivan who was older than America. The seats were a gray-blue color, the color of a stormy sea. The cup holders were half broken and the windows were covered in tiny sticky fingerprints. The sun beat down in hot and stifling waves. All the liquid in the car was near boiling and crayons were melting into the seats. The air conditioning was a blessing on my skin. When we first arrived, we stayed in a Best Western hotel by the river that made really good cheesy omelets. After two weeks, we rented a dull, brown house in a neighborhood near where I live now. It had thick fluffy jade colored carpet in the basement, petite bedrooms, an overrun backyard, and a painfully small…

The term exodus is an emotive one. It conjures striking biblical imagery of the Israelites fleeing their ancestral lands in search of religious freedom and a distinct identity. In many ways this mirrors the plight of the African Americans in the latter half of the 19th century as well as the early 20th century, as they left the south for the north in search of opportunity and sovereignty. Arnesen’s book Black Protest and the Great Migration attempts to dissect this geographic movement of people by discussing its role in the creation of a national black identity, increased black presence in the workforce, and the formation of African-American political organizations all in the context of the first World War.…

I cannot say that my family has a vast American history of a 100+ years, but what I can say is that my family has grown a lot in the past 30+ years. We would not have migrated to the USA if it weren't for my aunt’s marriage. It was 1984 when the first member of my family, my aunt, came to the United States of America. From then on, the rest of my immediate family trickled into the United States of America, looking for a place to grow and expand their family lines. It wasn’t easy to get a stable household income and care for our family at the time, but paycheck to paycheck we managed to do it.…

Have you ever tried packing your whole life within three suitcases? I have. It is hard work, but you can make it work by making sure you are only taking the necessary things that make up your life. It was the night before our flight to America. Immigrating to America for my parents meant providing my brother and me with opportunities in our future. We were going to a new country with only the hope that we would have a better life. Leaving behind so much was hard for me, but I knew that I could not just give up this opportunity. I know I’m moving in the right direction when I have the power to keep going even after facing challenges thrown at me from life. I always believed that for success to be tangible, I have to be resilient and optimistic. The ability to withstand stress, adapt, and overcome changes in life is what helps keep me on track and reach your goals. Of course, controlling thoughts and keeping sane through changes in life isn’t as easy as it sounds and that is what I didn’t know the moment I emigrated to America. Even though I had the mentality of never giving up, I didn’t know how difficult it is until unexpected changes beyond my control tested my resilience. The difficulty of speaking the language, dealing with the cultural differences, and most importantly,…

The Great Migration was a period in history when there was a massive relocation of blacks from the South to the North. These people were driven from their homes due to the lack of work available and poor treatment. They headed north and first filled the positions of those who had gone to fight in the World War, filling mainly industrial jobs, many of them in the steel industry. Migrants headed for cities like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, and St. Louis to find better opportunities for themselves and their families.…

“Life is a marathon and you're still at the store buying your running shoes." I was sitting in class in ninth grade zoning out when my global history teacher approached and told me that. Those words hit me hard, and for the first time I felt shame. I was never the brightest student in my family, always stuck in the shadow of my overachieving sister. I didn’t take school seriously. I figured there was no point in pursing an education if I was going to join my father in his food business.…

America was built on immigration; Europeans came to America in search of a new life and the rest of the world followed. People came to America for all different reasons: to flee war, to escape oppression, to have a voice in the government, to worship freely, and to leave poverty behind. Little has changed in the past five hundred years; people are still coming to America in search of a new life. According to a Gallup survey reported by Jon Clifton between 2007 and 2012, 150 million adults wish to move to America. This number is 23% of the total 640 million who want to leave their country permanently (Clifton).…

People often say things about how the United States, with its revolutionary political and economic system, must have been around for a long time in order to achieve the world standing it holds today. This isn’t the case though. In fact, when compared to great civilizations like the Roman Empire which lasted almost 12 centuries, many would say that the United States is still in its infancy. Much in the same way, the political and economic systems the U.S. is famous for are seen to be derived from past civilizations as well. But this of course leads us to asking the inevitable questions of where did it all begin, and what caused people to settle here in America of all places. In order to answer this however, we have to look back past explorers and crusades. Past the kings, uprisings, revolts, and trade routes. We must go back in time to the Roman Empire itself, specifically in the year 476 BCE; the time when everything was falling apart in Rome.…
