My Narrative Place At The Mall, Tukwila Washington
My narrative takes place at the mall which is located at Westfield Southcenter Mall, Tukwila Washington. South Center mall is located at a very diverse city. There are many different people with different backgrounds and cultures that reside and work at the mall. In 2010, Southcenter was considered as one of the largest malls in the entire Pacific Northwest. There are hundreds of people who visit south center each week and it's a great place to shop and meet up with friends. My story is set at the mall and focuses on one particular event that occurred while I was with friends a couple of years ago.

I think that we all want to be respected and be accepted. I was raised to respect everyone. “It doesn't matter if they are younger, older or different from you.” That's what my parents would tell me as a kid and I have always listened to that. At the mall, everyone goal is to mind their own business and get what they needed and leave but everyone still wants to be respected. Even though people want to be respected sometimes they forget what they are doing is wrong and that they are not respecting a person for who they are. Even giving a person a suspicious look or glaring at them is considered disrespectful in my discourse community.
After the event that occurred at the mall, for awhile I remember not wanting to go to social places. I would decline my friends when they want to hang out at the mall. This event taught me not to beat up myself because it's life and things happen but the most important lesson I learned was that I need to learn more about what people think about Muslims on why we dress the way we do because I think that I can change their views by talking to

I walked into the doors of Statehouse Expo Center, my feet walking with the sound of my bag rolling over the little cracks on the light floor tile, my white uniform as crisp as a fall breeze. With every step further, I could see more people. Lots more people. The mats filled with people. People who spend their whole lives working to be where they are, on those mats. Sparring, combat, weapons and forms. XMA in one corner, Black Belts in another corner, everyone else in a corner and staging in a corner. All surrounded by a Sr. Master or the occasional Master. When we get to a tournament, our team always meets up. Then all the kids go explore. We found our team and all the kids put away their IPads and Kindle Fires.…

I remember anxiously waiting for 9:00 o’clock so we could go explore the store. The grocery store could be kind of spooky during the night but this didn’t bother us too much because we would be busy playing tag or hide and seek throughout the store. The grocery store has seven aisles. Aisles 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are nothing special but aisle 6 is divided into in half by a variety of items as well as a candy box ( I don’t know what else to call it).…

In 2008 I moved to Bluffton to help start a new aluminum remelt facility called Alexin. I was one of three invited to make the move from western Kentucky by the presidents of Alexin because of my knowledge of the industry, my reputation as a hard worker, and my positive attitude. In the past nine years a lot has changed. Even though I know longer work in the aluminum industry, I still pride myself on my knowledge, reputation, and attitude. The job has changed, but what it takes to be successfully in any occupation has not.…

“ Come and eat.” Joe,the leader of the trip, struggled to say because he was so tired, “Breakfast is going to be light this morning because we have along day head of us.” We all struggled to get out of our tents considering it was 5:30am and there was a mountain we had to start climbing in a half hour. All thirteen of us stood in a line like we did the morning before while we packed our lunches. The options available to us were an apple, cheese stick, peanut butter and jelly to make sandwiches, but only 2 per person, yogurt and 2 bottles of water. All of that would have to fit into a back pack with us the would be stuck to our backs for the rest of the day. “Time to load!” Joe shouted. We all got into the van that seated 16, single file until very seat was filled.…

Rain just stopped and the wind stopped blowing. I began to sing the same song. However, the tune seems different. My body is quivering along with the awkward melody. This summer I had the opportunity to visit New York City and was able to tour campus. As soon as I stepped foot on the grounds I felt at home. The quiet campus seemed like a great escape from the bustling city. All of the students I met seemed very welcoming and willing to help out new students. I've grown up in Oklahoma City and realize that moving to New York will be a big adjustment. Barnard provides the support I will need to become comfortable in this new environment. I also value how hard Barnard works to support all the women that attend. The opportunities and doors they have opened for all graduates is inspirational. I want to attend a college that is dedicated to their students. A college where women support each other instead of tearing…

You have to respect yourself before you can respect anyone else. As a student here at Royal High School I have seen many students that are very disrespectful to adults; they do not understand the meaning of character, if they did, they would do things differently. If one of my friends ever got out of line with an adult, I would tell them that their behavior is unacceptable, if I allowed my friend to act that way and I did not say anything, then I would be upholding them in their…

On the second day of school during my sophomore year, I realized how much Wahlert meant to me. It had become my home, the place where I felt like I belonged; school almost even seemed like a break from summer. Over the summer, I had become an empty shell and spent my time at the computer wasting the time away; the only interactions I had were with my family, and on rare occasion with my best friends, when we had sleepovers. To see the people I had missed over the summer was great. All of these things felt so true in that moment.…

I always keep this poem and picture in my wallet. I take it everywhere with me because it means quite a lot to me in two very different ways. One of those ways is because it holds sentimental value. When I was younger I learned to read very late in life and I was always so embarrassed of that. My father knew that I was struggling and bought me the book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. It is a book full of poems and little pictures written by Shel Silverstein. I remember opening the book to ta random page, and it was the page with this poem. I then remember my dad asking me to read it to him. I was so uncomfortable, even thought I was just going to be reading to my dad. He gave me some words of encouragement, and even thought I was not able to read…
