I think that we all want to be respected and be accepted. I was raised to respect everyone. “It doesn't matter if they are younger, older or different from you.” That's what my parents would tell me as a kid and I have always listened to that. At the mall, everyone goal is to mind their own business and get what they needed and leave but everyone still wants to be respected. Even though people want to be respected sometimes they forget what they are doing is wrong and that they are not respecting a person for who they are. Even giving a person a suspicious look or glaring at them is considered disrespectful in my discourse community.
After the event that occurred at the mall, for awhile I remember not wanting to go to social places. I would decline my friends when they want to hang out at the mall. This event taught me not to beat up myself because it's life and things happen but the most important lesson I learned was that I need to learn more about what people think about Muslims on why we dress the way we do because I think that I can change their views by talking to
