My Nursing Philosophy Essay
Personal Philosophy of Nursing When I first started nursing school, I thought of it just as a job. A job easy to find, pays bills and good reputation in the society. I used to define nursing as taking care of sick people and giving them medicines. When I actually started working, I realized pretty quick that nursing isn’t the same as I thought it was. As a mother nurses her baby to provide the nutrient he needs, comfort on her lap and the security the baby feels, nursing to me is similar. My personal philosophy of nursing is caring, honest, compassionate, trustworthy and kind. These are the basic needs, then knowledge, skills and being proactive comes afterwards. My beliefs, values and ethics play a major role on my day to day nursing practice …show more content…
My maternal side were Buddhist and my paternal sides were Hindu. I went to catholic school where the teachers were mostly from abroad. I grew up surrounded by different cultures and traditions. In every religion, culture, or tradition, I have noticed the basic philosophy in living in this earth is same. They all teach us the basic philosophy to be honest, help each other, do good, not to hurt others, be kind and many more good principles. My philosophy in nursing is the same as my philosophy in life. I do my best to do the best for my patient. I involve patient, family or loved ones, vigilant about the situation, focus on getting their health to optimal point and maintain the environment for their comfort. Even though the profession of nursing is changing rapidly with advanced knowledge and practices, we have made harmony with personal values and philosophy. Through advocacy, attention, compassion, respect, and keeping in mind the concept of metaparadigm of nursing, we can make the goal of restoration of optimal health according to how the patient defines health. There is a correlation between my personal values and nursing philosophy in my daily patient care. I will continue to grow and learn in the process of nursing care to advance my understanding of nursing philosophies of great

My philosophy of nursing is that we must provide care to patients that is competent, holistic, and patient centered. Florence Knightingale said, “Nursing is an art” and “it requires an exclusive devotion as hard a preparation as any painter or sculptors work.” As “artist” we must use our autonomy to continue to improve our form. We must have a drive for lifelong learning and by doing so assures that the patient receive the most efficient care. The personal values that help contribute to my worldview and philosophy of nursing that is most important, is my religion. I am a Christian and this means that I am to be Christ like in my every day life and work. I am taught to treat others as I would want to be treated and care for them as I would do for myself. I am to help the sick, wounded, poor and widowed. Nursing in its roots are very much the same thing. Helping the ones who are unable to help themself. The underlying rule for nurses is to do no harm. My spiritual vales shape who I am, what I am and what I do. If I do all things as if I were doing them to the glory of God, then I know all things would turn out right. When obeying God and his commands, my spiritual values teach me that all things work to the good of God and according to his purpose.…

To formulate my personal philosophy of nursing, I had to look at what my core values were. I am a kind, compassionate, honest, and caring. I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is something that always has been in my blood. I believe human life is precious and is to be valued. Not only do I consider my patient’s wellbeing, but I also look at the wellbeing of the families. Families take care of the patient when they are discharged. I also look at my fellow health care workers. Without being able to work alongside them, I could not take care of the patient properly. Lastly, I consider my own health. An unhealthy nurse cannot properly do their job. Caring for patients and their families, working well with coworkers, and taking care of your own health is what makes a difference because no matter how small the task, little things add up to big things. That is why I believe the world will get better one small step at a time.…

My personal philosophy reinforces the existing nursing theories, because it borrows heavily from Jean Watson theory of Human Caring. The main defining elements of my philosophy are respect for life and dignity of every person. This implies that the theory takes into consideration the various physical, spiritual and environmental needs required by patients to attain the anticipated health outcomes. For this reason, my personal philosophy places a greater responsibility on the nurse to create a favorable environment of promoting health for the…

How does your philosophy affect how you care for your patients and how you interact with your fellow health care professionals? Describe ways that you use Nightingale’s philosophy and contributions to nursing in your current nursing practice. To describe my personal nursing philosophy would include mentioning the inspirational words of scripture, “For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a…

Nursing is a career not just a job, nursing is treating people as a disease, but as a unique individual who has his/her own values, beliefs, needs, and also treat the family with respect, compassion, patience, and show that we care. I chose nursing because I have always liked helping people. Ever since I was a little girl I liked helping and I would tell my dad that if he was ever sick I would take care of him so he could get better. At first I wanted to be a doctor, a pediatrician to be exact, but I chose nursing because, nurses have more contact with patients and nursing school is shorter than medical school. I know I made the right choice because as I have been doing clinicals, I have been falling more and more in love with what nurses do, but throughout the process I have also seen what kind of nurse I do not want to be. During clinicals there was an agency nurse a patient did…
