My Reflection
During the journey of this course, I have gained an immense amount of knowledge on various health behavior theories and models. In addition to the knowledge gained about these subjects, I also developed as a writer. There are many aspects of my writing that have improved from the beneficial coursework endeavored on throughout this semester. This being said, there are also many aspects of my writing that I believe still need improvement. However, I can confidently say that even my weakest writing skills have clearly advanced and have positively evolved to aid in my abilities to become a more efficient writer.

The provided lecture PowerPoint’s were a good reinforcement of the required weekly readings. I also think that the weekly journal assignments reinforced the information I understood about the theories. Prior to this course, I had not utilized this format of academic writing. I believe learning this format of writing increased my knowledge field on techniques of academic writing. These theory overview papers also contributed to a more in-depth knowledge and comprehension of the two theories utilized. I believe this improved knowledge was gained through the required research into the application of the theory in real word health settings and interventions. To see a more enhanced improvement of my writing, I could have used other resources outside of this course. One resource I was aware of and had available to me, but I did not utilize, was East Carolina University’s Online Writing Lab. If I would have reached out with any questions I had throughout my writing process, I may have seen a more drastic improvement in my

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

As shown in my final products, my ability to convey a message through my writing has gotten stronger. My persuasive essay, for example, was able to convince those with opposing views by using information and inferencing how it would affect everyone in a negative manner. Also, in my cultural identity essay I was able to effectively describe and define my culture and how the combination of my parents’ distinctive cultures became a unique one entirely. Previously in my writing I do not think I was able to efficiently convey a message to my audience like I do after this…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…
