When given the choice to write about any topic, I tend to choose topics that requite a large amount of research.
When I do this, I am able to engage myself in the topic more because I’m learning something new. Sometimes it can be difficult to write a paper when you already know a lot about the topic. Yes, you don’t have to research as much but it can be boring and difficult to research when you already know lots of information about it. However, the most challenging topics for me are when I have no interest in the topic at all. The paper will reflect my lack of appeal and in turn not sound as good. I will usually procrastinate the paper and therefore have to rush to get it done making it sloppy and not written
well.
When I revise my paper, I tend to have multiple look over it for me and see if there is anything they would suggest I change. After I look through what they suggested and decide if I agree or not, I will read through it again myself and see if there is anything I overlooked. This works best for me because I first get the opinions of my peers and adults that are better writers than I am. As far as editing other people’s papers go, I am not the best. It is difficult for me at times to find mistakes in other people’s writing. I tend to only point out mistakes that a major and obviously not correct. I usually will not point out minor mistakes because it may just be me that thinks it’s wrong. However, by reading other people’s papers I am able to get examples on how other people write so I can base my next paper on this knowledge. Reading them helps me expand the styles of writing I use so that I can have a better sounding paper. When I write a paper, it usually takes a while for me to actual start the writing process. I do a lot of research on the topic and make sure I have everything I need. Its captivating to learn something new about a topic whether you had prior knowledge or not. I usually end up getting more information than I need because I just want to know everything there is to know. However, when I finally start drafting the paper, I get really into it. I love when ideas just rush through your head and you can barely move your fingers fast enough to type or write them out. Making sure everything fits so that the paper flows and makes sense is fun too; it’s almost like a puzzle. The most rewarding part about writing though has to be doing the corrections and finally being done with the paper. Knowing that you have finished and that you don’t have to worry about it anymore is such a weight off your shoulders.
