Daniel Shaye was a poor farmhand from Massachusetts when the Revolution broke out. He joined the Continental Army where he fought at Lexington, Bunker Hill, and Saratoga, and was eventually wounded in action. In 1780, he resigned from the army unpaid and went home to find himself in court for the nonpayment of debts. He soon found that he was not alone in being unable to pay his debts, and once even saw a sick woman who had her bed taken out from under her because she was also unable to pay. He started to get very angry about the country's actions. The rebellion started on August 29, 1786, and by January 1787, over one thousand Shaysites had been arrested. A militia that had been raised as a private army defeated an attack on the federal Springfield…

It was Adrian’s 9th birthday and all our family, along with Adrian’s friends from school, came to celebrate. It's a tradition for everyone from our family to bring their own homemade food to gatherings. My Uncle Willie brought rice and beans, my Aunt Marce brought her potato salad, and my Grandma managed to make a whole bunch of tortillas. Rather quickly however, everyone noticed that my Aunt Mona wasn't here, as she would usually bring a variety of sweets everyone enjoyed. My Mother told us that, my Aunt won't be able to make it to the party because she came up with a case of shingles and felt it was best to try and avoid contact with others until it goes away. The party felt incomplete without her but we were able to still have fun and celebrate Adrian’s birthday. Thankfully my Aunt made the right call in staying home and everyone started wondering what…

Recently, about late-January, I decided I was going to help. I started talking with her mom, and got my friend to pick out an organic soup, specifically one that was good for healing bones, that she might like. I got right to work, only using the best and healthiest ingredients. I spent hours chopping the carrots, celery, and chicken into the smallest pieces, just so she wouldn’t have to chew and it wouldn’t be difficult for her to eat. I sat down by the soup as it cooked and constantly was making sure it was perfect. As I cooked, I thought about all the good laughs we had together and my love for my friend. As soon as it was done, I put it into giant mason jars, and my mom and I dropped them off at her house. The only downside was that she was in the hospital, and we didn’t know for how much longer until she could come home again. Her dad came to the rescue though; taking a jar of the soup all the way to the hospital, just…

I have experienced many failures in my life but one stuck out to me more than others. I have wrestled since I was 8 years old. Through all my matches I have wrestled in my life, something hit me. My sophomore year I worked really hard to make it to the state tournament. Going into the sectional tournament, my record was 19-3. I had a by the first round which put me in the semi-finals. After winning my semi-finals match 12-4, that put me in the finals against a kid I wrestled 3 times before this. He pinned me the first time we wrestled and the next 2 times we wrestled I pinned him. Going into this match I had a lot of confidence because I knew I could win. I underestimated the want he had to win. He surprised me and came out strong. My sectional…

I didn’t experience my first Thanksgiving until I was 10 years old. For millions of Americans, Thanksgiving is a day for feasting on immense portions of food, watching football, and napping on the couch. However, for most of my life, it was just an ordinary day like any other, in which I was allowed to miss school, play games, and even watch some TV. It wasn’t because I didn’t know about Thanksgiving.…

I said ''It's just too cold'' So after my mom had left I had taken my dogs out for a walk because I had thought maybe if I had just walked a bit I wouldn't be so nervous. Discourse Communities are defined as “a group of people that share and hold similar beliefs and ideas and communicate amongst each other through unique interactions”. These communities are all around us, from the classes in a university, to all sorts of sports lingo. Growing up I was involved in the Hockey Discourse community. The people in the community with me all shared the passion for hockey, and it was part of everyone’s life. Not only was it just my team, and New Mexico hockey, but all around the world. Sure, every sports fan base is going to say that their favorite sport is the best. But hockey fans have much different qualities than any other fans.…

It was a cold New Years Eve day and Clemson was about to play Ohio State for their chance to claim the fiesta bowl title and also to be able to go back to the college football national championship. I went over to my cousins with my family because we were having a new years party but I really wanted to be by myself because I am a really avid Clemson fan. Kick off was at 7 o’clock pm so I was in the living room ready for the game to begin. The game began and I didn’t leave the couch until halftime and the score was 17-0 Clemson so I was very happy but I still had that nervous feel because the game wasn’t over yet. I got off the couch to get something to eat and came back in and sat down then the game came back on. The game ended around 11 and Clemson won the game with a whopping score of 31-0 and the tigers are headed back to the College Football…

    Best Christmas Ever

Every year I have a great Christmas spending valuable time with family and friends. This past Christmas was the best I’ve ever had. I received the best unexpected gift ever! It all started when everyone in my family came to my house early Christmas morning for breakfast. After breakfast we started passing out gifts. First, we would usually go in a huge circle and everyone would open one gift at a time. This time was different and very odd to me. My family would let everyone open a gift and would skip me. At first, I wondered why I didn’t get my turn yet, but then, I thought to myself that something was up. After a while, my family let me open some of my gifts so that I wouldn’t suspect anything. Next, my whole family huddled up whispering to each other. I then knew that something wasn’t right which made me get a little angry. After my family’s little huddle, they handed me a card. As I read the card, I come across the words,” You will be going on a 7 day cruise to Mexico!” I stood up screaming to the top of my lungs with enjoyment. I cried happy tears because I never expected to go on a cruise especially without my parents. All of my family members rushed to me and gave me a big hug. My grandmother and I cried together in joy and sadness because she was happy for me but at the same time, she didn’t want to see her oldest grandchild leave the country without her being there with me. Over all, my family gave me some advice on what to do and what not to do while I’m on the cruise. I had a great time on the cruise and got to learn about a different culture from mines. It was a unforgettable experience and I would never forget the best Christmas…
