My Theory
Theories of personality

There are many different theories of personality, Type theories, Psychodynamic theories,Trait theories, Humanist theories and finally Behavioral theories. If i had to create my own theory of personality it will be very similar to Freud's Stages of Psychosexual Development. Simply because I also agree that the personality mainly develops during childhood. I also believe that individuals have motives behind every action which he describes as "the driving force behind behavior" . The reason why I believe that personality develops during childhood is because thats the time where we first start to show our personality. The way a baby grabs a bottle may reflect on the type of personality he may have in the future. For example; adults often go back to places where they grew up to bring back old memories and often feel nostalgic going back, this shows that it plays a big role in their life, it help them become the person they are.I also believe that there are stages in which the infant discovers what they are capable of doing. And depending on how they react to his actions is the way his personality will develop.

    Freuds psychoanalytic theory explains how the unconscious mind, id, ego, superego, and childhood experience develop personality in the early stages of life. As early as infancy Freud believed sexual urges and the need to fulfill pleasure motivate behavior. Sexual urges and the need to fulfill pleasure reside within the id. Because the id does not recognize reality the ego is responsible for control the behaviors sent to retrieve pleasure filling needs.     When it comes to the psychodynamic approach there are a lot of different points to this theory that I agree with and some that I understand, but would most likely not use in my day to day practice as a therapist. I would have to say that I am a strong supporter that behavior and feelings are powerfully affected by our unconscious motives. Our mind is based a lot on our unconscious mind, or our basic instincts. When it comes to the idea that our behavior and feelings as adults (including psychological problems) are rooted in our childhood experiences, I would have to agree and disagree. I agree that what happened to us as children is important. I think that people carry that with them for most of their lives, but I am not sure that I agree that you carry it with you for the rest of your life. Maturity and real life situations can alter those thoughts or feelings you remember from your childhood throughout your life and change the childhood memories. When it comes to the three types of personality, id, ego, and super-ego I would agree that they are true.
