A trip to the ocean can be a relaxing escape from the everyday pressures of life. A sailboat glistening on the horizon provides a mental escape to faraway places. The rhythm of the ocean beating against the sand is sedating music to a troubled mind. A slow, gentle breeze can relax your tensions. You should always be careful to avoid overexposure to the sun at the beach.…

The Wichita Kid from “The Gunfighter” by Alden Nowlan and a young man living on the streets of Calgary both demonstrate that we fear what we do not understand. Citizens need to personally comprehend someones situation before they can help or judge them directly. Homelessness and poverty are often hard situations to face considering how uncomfortable and awkward it can become. When Kevin O’Brien has a short conversation with Wichita he learns that he is unaware of reality and living his delusional life as a famous gunfighter. Confused and not understanding Wichita’s situation, Kevin tries to solve his own guilt by lending the young boy some spare change. Much like Kevin O’Brien when I encountered the young unfortunate man in Calgary my own heart ached, so I tossed him a couple of loonies and left. Although you feel major misery there is rarely anything you can do to support them without getting deeply involved.…

I learned that my audience didn’t really know anything about my past. They had no idea what it was like for me to be on bed rest for a few weeks with only books and note pads. I feel like I was really successful in fulfilling my purpose of telling my audience about why I started writing. I told my audience the reason I started writing. I helped them feel exactly what I did once I started writing.…
My writing process all depends on what I am writing. Some writings I can sit down and write the whole things and be done with it, while others can take me multiple days or even weeks. I normally sit down and work on it until I finish, get tired of it, or a hit a roadblock. I try to stop when I feel like I am writing the same thing over and over or if I feel like I just need a break. Most of the time, if I feel like I am writing and it is really bad, it is because it is and I need to take a break and come back to it later. Working on it in pieces normally works well for me, to break it up and take it a little bit at a time. I normally struggle when I do not like what I am writing about or when I run out of information to put in my writing. I…
During my writing process, I came across a tolerable amount of obstacles. I felt the tendency to occupy a higher quality word choice, as well as better sentence structure. Sentence structure was especially arduous, for I found a great deal of simple sentences in my narrative introduction. However, I did overcome these obstacles with the help of my peer-checking partner, my classmates around me, and my background knowledge in regards to applying what I already know into my assignments. On the contrary, there were a few things I could facilitate. As I write down or think of proposals to apply to my assignments, it is almost as if the suggestions are pouring from out of my head, onto the paper. I write down what I feel sounds right, and if ultimately…

b. Choose three titles from your list and write them in the chart below. Then list the themes from each work. Examples of themes include love, hate, the innocence of youth, love of life, courage, struggle, loyalty, survival, and triumph over adversity.…
What indeed is assisted suicide? Some may think it is just another word for euthanasia; however, there is actually a difference. Based on the basic Dictionary.com definition, euthanasia is “intentionally causing the death of a person; the motive being to benefit that person or protect him/her from further suffering,” while assisted suicide is “helping a person kill him or herself”. In other words, the main difference between this and euthanasia is that in assisted suicide the patient is in complete control of the process that leads to death because he/she is the person who performs the act of suicide. The other person simply helps (for example, providing the means for carrying out the action).…
For the last few years, I have associated frustration and displeasure with writing. When thinking of writing, painful memories of me staying up late working on papers, meeting with teachers for extra help, and dissatisfaction flash into my mind.…
I am truly dedicated to improving my writing skills. Last summer I took an eight-week UC San Diego Extension course that focused on grammar. On June 1, 2016, I participated in a Fred Pryor workshop that focused on grammar and proofreading. I will continue to develop my writing skills every day and I am open to other workshops, seminars, or courses that will help refine my writing. It is important to me as a communicator that I have excellent writing skills.…
