1. I cut 2 strips of coffee filter paper to 3 cm by 9 cm.…
Purpose: to test cohesion and adhesion of distilled H2O, tap H2O, salt H2O, and soapy H2O…
1. If the room temperature for this experiment had been lower, the length of the resonating air column would have been shorter. The length of air column is directly proportional to temperature due to v=331msT273 .…
Procedure: In this lab we mixed many different substances to see if they formed a double replacement reaction. We also looked for precipitants that were formed from the mixing of the different substances. We used barium nitrate, potassium hydroxide, sodium sulfate, magnesium nitrate, aluminum sulfate, and iron (III) chloride in set one. In set two we used potassium chloride, sodium hydroxide, magnesium nitrate, barium chloride, sodium sulfate, and magnesium sulfate. For each set, we mixed two drops of one compound in five wells of a spot plate. We then added two drops of all the other substances to the compound. We repeated this procedure for set two. If a precipitant formed from any solution, we recorded the color on our data table. If no precipitant formed, we recorded NR. After mixing and recording all the compounds we rinsed to spot plate thoroughly with water.…
When holding test tube inverted over heptane flame, condensation formed against top walls of the test tube. When the burning splint was added the walls of the test tube became less foggy from the condensation formed from the heptane flame.…
A. Create a solubility curve for NH4Cl by plotting g NH4Cl/100 mL H20 on the y-axis, and crystallization temperature on the x-axis. Make sure to label each axis. On the same graph as the solubility curve for NH4Cl, add the solubility curve for NaCl using the data provided in Data Table 3.…
4) Burn the known substances one by one to see what will happen. When it starts to burn take the beaker off of the burner.…
Purpose: To be familiarized with the science and techniques used to identify different types of bacteria based on their DNA sequences.…
What substance is not present in tube S2 for the production of the brown-colored substance?…
The type of graph that is appropriate for this data set is a line graph. The line graph is more appropriate because it shows the trend between the two variables and there is a direct relationship between each point connected.…
Purpose: In this lab, I will observe macroscopic changes that occur when mixing together certain chemicals and household cleaners. The mixing of the chemicals provided with each other and with acid/base indicators demonstrates how matter can change, and how chemistry can be seen with the naked eye. By mixing household cleaners with an acid/base indicator I hope to demonstrate how these changes can be related to everyday life.…
a) To test for sodium bicarbonate we could use hydrochloric acid. The two form bubbles when mixed. These bubbles are carbon dioxide.…
_____________________________________________ Project 3: Identifying the Unknown White Compound by Testing Physical and Chemical Properties _____________________________________________ Michigan State University Chemistry Lab 161 Section 27 19 October 2017 Friday 11:00-1:50 Introduction For this experiment, there was an unknown white compound that had to be identified. By testing this compound for different properties it made making an educated guess easier to determine what this compound was so it could be disposed of properly. To attempt to discover our unknown compound, the tests that will be performed will be: solubility test, pH test, physical property test, two precipitate tests, and temperature test with solubility.…
Students at NFV middle school are on a journey to figure out a mystery mixture. They have to search through 9 chemicals to figure out which one is it. Seems easy huh? Nope, they have to analyze the physical and chemical properties (a very important part in this), the data, argue, and give important statements on what they think is in the mix. That’s when arguing comes in, not arguing on the person but the statement. I think it is citric acid and baking soda.…
The purpose of this experiment was to find out the identity of six substances by using the steps of the scientific method. This method will show me the changes of each substance so I can have better understanding on the conclusion of my report.…
