Mystery Mixture Research Paper

Students at NFV middle school are on a journey to figure out a mystery mixture. They have to search through 9 chemicals to figure out which one is it. Seems easy huh? Nope, they have to analyze the physical and chemical properties (a very important part in this), the data, argue, and give important statements on what they think is in the mix. That’s when arguing comes in, not arguing on the person but the statement. I think it is citric acid and baking soda. Eighth graders have to find out what a mystery mix is from an assortment of chemicals, by adding water and mixing them together. Some think it is citric acid and baking soda, and some still think it’s citric acid, baking soda, and Epsom salts. Then they looked at the mix dry and it looked too rectangle and rocky, then what the mystery mixture seemed to be. Citric acid is more circular than Epsom salt. But other people thought it was Epsom salt, and the baking soda covered the Epsom salt to make it look white. But most figured out that that’s not true, baking soda might cover the clear part of the Epsom salt but it doesn't mean it could change the shape of it too.
The groups and teachers did a large experiment, they videotaped, recorded all kinds of data such as the temperature, and the reaction. The temperatures they recorded are Citric Acid, Baking Soda: -16.4, Citric Acid, Baking Soda, and Epsom Salt: -17.4. Those temps can make you change your mind like that. See it only takes a second to change someone's mind.On the first day of school in science class, we looked at 9 different elements, trying to find out what a mystery mixture is. Further on into the week, we recorded all kinds of data like temperatures, colors, and reaction times. Very few people think that it is Citric Acid, baking soda, and Epsom salts, almost the whole class thinks that it is citric acid and baking
