Napoleon kept complete grip over France and its people, with that he helped keep France stable. He stabilized the economy and kept the people happy. Napoleon put his rank so high that no other country in Europe was crazy enough to attack France.
The creation of the Code Napoleon benefited the country and the people. It introduced laws the French people have never had under the monarchy. The Napoleonic Code forbade privileges based on birth, allowed freedom of religion, and specified that government jobs should go to the most qualified. The code also introduced a public trail and a legal system with a jury. The Code Napoleon provided the ideas of liberty, equality, and prosperity.
During Napoleons rule he made education the most important thing. He believes that everything in the present and future depends on the education. He believed it was essential to have a good education to have equality in France. All political and moral ideas of people depended on the people’s education.
However, with all the heroic things that Napoleon accomplished he was so egotistical that he crashed downwards completely. In the early 19th century a British historian said, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.” Napoleon is a perfect example. His great military skills and power to take over almost every country in Europe made him think he was invincible but in reality he wasn’t. His biggest mistake in all of his reign was that to attack Russia but the cold Russian winter ruined his plans.
