Napoleon Bonaparte was a great man and a great leader, who made many accomplishments. He was born on the island of Corsica and he always had a real sense of importance; he was full of pride and honor. He received a scholarship to a millitary school at the age of nine. He became a millitary officer at the age of sixteen and a general at the age of twenty-four. He was also recognized as a genius. In 1795, Napoleon drove out rebellious royalists out of france and was then named savior of the French Republic. He was also given command of the french army and their defeats soon started turning into victories and then to conquests. He once also defeated four European armies, each larger than his own in just one year. He revoulutionized the art of war by dividing and conquering. In 17955, he proceeded to seize control of the French government in a millitary coo without the involvement of bloodshed, 5 years later he then crowned himself emperor of France, as in got the crown and put it on himself. As emperor of France he then proceeded to make several changes that were meant to build upon the Revolution’s good ideas. He cut taxes fairly, opened public schools, and encouraged religious tolerance as he opened up the churches. He also invented a new set of laws named “The Napoleonic Code” that limited the rights of the individual but only in the pursuit of equality. He was ranked just below god because of all these changes that were made for the better. Eight years later Napoleon’s insatiable appetite for power and glory led him to his downfall. He invaded Russia but was soon forced out by the severe and unanticipated cold weather. He never knew this magnitude of failure after this one and many others so he stepped out of the throne after being exiled to Elba with his troops while King Louis the XVIII was placed back onto the throne and took over.
