Narrative Essay About Moving To Texas
One day after school when I was eight, my parents conveyed to our family that we were moving due to my father’s job. I found this bizarre since we had just moved to our massive house in Fort Wayne, IN about two years earlier. I questioned where we were moving to, and my mother told us we were moving to Texas. This time we were moving across several states rather than just a few towns away. Up to that point in lives, we had lived in Indiana, so moving to Texas seemed so far away and across the country. As we started packing our essentials into our cars, a semi-truck pulled up to our house and four men jumped out of the truck lackadaisical. The movers started packing our various possessions into the enormous semi-truck, while my family continued to pack as fast as we could pack. Therefore, my immediate family was moving to the largest state in the US, Texas, it was officially real! We were leaving our extended family, our friends, and everything that I had ever known in my entire life behind. My life seemed to be over; however, I knew I must give Texas a chance. …show more content…
At last, we discovered a wonderful house we all loved which was located in McKinney, Texas. We were excited to move from the tiny apartment to our actual new house where I had my own room again. It was a little smaller than our previous house in Indiana, but it was plenty of room for our family of four. This house also had an absolutely astounding pool in the backyard. I quickly discovered that Texas had everything you could possibly ever need or want. I liked that I was able to walk to school due to the close proximity to our house. I could even walk to the library and several parks. Everyone lived close to each other and it was easy to make friends. There was almost any restaurant imaginable in the area and I loved the new variety choices. We enjoyed exploring our new location, as we were like tourists in our own

The state of Alabama is the place I call home, but that was not always the case. Being born in Alabama would automatically make this my home: right? At the age of 16—unlike most of the teenagers around—the state of Alabama was not as appealing to as they made it seem. As travel opportunities became prominent; I made ventures to different lands. Travels far and wide were made, but nowhere seemed to draw me in like Alabama. The state is enticing and sometimes I never wanted to give into its charming ways. Stars Fell on Alabama by Carl Carmer shows how captivating the state can be. The legends and folk tales documented by Carmer gave off a special aurora that can still be felt years later.…

Imagine being stripped away from everything you knew: your childhood friends; cousins you thought you'd always have with you, and places you called your second, third, or even fourth home. That is exactly what I went through when my family decided to move to Albuquerque, New Mexico. What's different about my experience was that it wasn't necessarily the move that flipped my world upside down but everything that happened in between. I was an awkward, shy, midget-like twelve-year-old when my family and I lost our home during the California money crisis. From that point on it was like a tumbling circus act. My parents ended up losing their jobs until finally my dad moved to New Mexico; leaving me and my family for almost a year. The last thing…

I noticed we weren’t the only Louisianans to take refuge here. I could only hope they had as high hopes for our home as I did. Little did I know, the conditions of my home were dismal. Aerial News coverage of the city showed on the TV in our hotel room. I witnessed a city I didn’t recognize, waves as high as roof tops. My neighborhood was shown on the screen. I saw my house being uprooted like crops on a farm. I distinctly remember feeling my life being washed away just as my home was. My mother made the decoration right then and there. She said’ “well, it looks like we’re Texans now”. I hated the idea of it. I had not realized I would be living in Texas after I just lost everything I knew. My mother wanted us to see this decision as a positive, a new beginning for us. I was reluctant at first even though I didn’t have I choice in the matter. I didn’t want to start over my life in Texas, I missed too much back home. I didn’t have as much pent up rage as I thought and started to warm up to my new…

Living in Texas most of my life I was no stranger to Americans who either didn’t speak English at all or whose first language wasn’t English. As I interacted with people, mostly from Mexico, I had a hard time understanding why they didn’t want to speak English . Although I’m ashamed to say it, I often viewed these people as less educated and meek. A statement that Ive heard all to often is that people who don’t speak English should learn our language or leave America. However, I’ve never considered myself racist or close minded, despite the fact that I often felt frustrated and uncomfortable while trying to interact with people whose first language wasn’t English. Being on the other side of this situation forever changed…

Growing up in Southern Louisiana, I was raised in a “weird” way. I was taught to call all adults ma'am and sir when I was speaking to them, and “ya’ll” happens to be a regular word in my vocabulary. Loving the bayou, and being polite to everyone who earned it, is what I guess people call weird here in Colorado. I spent most of my life in Louisiana. It's my home.Everything about that place reminds me why I love it so much, most the people, the food, and pretty much everything except the weather. Everything was going great until I got home from school one day and my mom told me that we were moving.…

My life begins here in Brownsville, Texas. However, I was only there from the beginning when I was a newborn before going back to Matamoros, Tamaulipas where my family had their own house. My mom wanted to have me in the U.S. because people had told her that there were far more opportunities over here. Technically, these two cities have become my two homes. I do miss Matamoros, Tamaulipas because that’s where I spend most of my childhood until I was seven years old. Then we had to return back to Texas because one of my younger sisters got very sick. The first five years outside of Matamoros were miserable for me because I didn’t speak an ounce of English which left me feeling so different from everyone else.…

Where I used to live right before my family moved to send me to the high school was a small town known as Laredo, Texas, located right alongside the border of Mexico. I moved to Laredo from North Carolina when I was three years old because that is where most of the family on my father’s side resided. Laredo, in my personal opinion, made a portion of my time as a growing child feel empty whenever I got out of the house. Leaving Laredo was like leaving a slot machine while you still have the precious money and time still on your hands.…
