Elie Wiesel uses symbolism is his memoir to expand on the feelings of hatred and sorrow he experienced through his time at the concentration camps. In symbolism he uses the word night to foreshadow that death is near or to help explain how terrifying something was. In setting he talks about the camps he visited and all the places he stayed. He explains how all the places he stayed got worse and worse and the story went on and he used the symbol night to help paint a picture for the reader.
