The years following the War of 1812 became known as the “era of good feelings”. During this time you see the expansion of nationalism within the United States. It started mainly in the 1816 shortly before Monroe took office, and lasted until the end of his Presidency in the year of 1824. Before the “era of good feelings” there were certain events taking place that will lead up to this era. The first of these is the acquired land of the Louisiana Purchase from the French. Through this the United States was able to double its land. The gained independence from this purchase was able to keep other countries father away from the US’s boundaries and was able to separate the United States even more. Another event that led up to the Era of Good Feelings was the Embargo Act of 1807. The Embargo Act cut off trade with Britain to try to prove that the U.S. could be interdependent amongst them. Although this proving to be a huge mistake for the U.S. it gave many of the citizens the spirit of nationalism. One of the greatest events however, that led up to the era was the War of 1812. The Americans were upset with the British amidst their interception of American ships and declared war on the British. It was after this war ended that the true spirit of nationalism was expressed in the nation. This was the second time that the United States had faced Britain and had not loss. Nationalism began to take off which sparked the innovations of new things within the country.…
Revolutionary Nationalism in Ireland was a huge movement as well as a firm belief shared by many at the time. This idea of a republic free from the chains of the England was shared aggressively by many Irishmen, and there it can be seen that the movement as a whole contained a number of mixed successes. Founding members of the United Irishmen, along with figures such as Wolfe Tone, included Thomas Russell and Samuel Neilson, and by 1798, the Society of United Irishmen had around 100,000 members. Crossing the religious divide in Ireland, it had a mixed membership of Catholics, Presbyterians, and Anglicans from the Protestant Ascendancy. From this perspective, the movement of revolutionary nationalism had a large amount of support, proving it to be a success in that aspect as it was causing a spread in these revolutionary ideas. However, a different view comes to light as the outcomes of the…
Many extreme events are closely tied to the names of individuals – usually leaders of the nation at the time of the extreme act. Names such as Stalin, Hitler and Milosovic become entwined with the promotion of ultra-nationalism and the extreme acts, even if the leaders themselves did not physically commit the acts.…

The 20th century was a time of rapid development and innovation all around the world, but this competition soon morphed into a form of imperial nationalism in the United States, for a country comprised of so much diversity this can quickly became unhealthy as citizens begin determining what is “un-American”. Plays like, The Crucible, by Arthur Miller can offer a new perspective of the damages caused by our people to our people as a result of paranoia. Blaming individuals, foreign ideas, or other nations for what happened during this time period would be easy, but the United States Government turned its own citizens against each other, they did not hesitate to take away the freedom and security of its own people for the sake of expanding western influence while keeping other foreign ideas out of the United States. This was a century which future generations should look back on and hopefully be able to take the correct steps to avoid making the same mistakes.…

Nationalism is the idea that a nation should be composed of people who are united by common languages, customs, culture, and history. The goals of nationalists were to build a nation that is ruled by them instead of a foreign king or royal family. Nationalism was a threat to the Austrian’s because if they would have recognized those ideas it would have meant the dissolution of the empire. One of the significant nationalist’s movements was the Irish nationalists who wanted independence or a larger amount of self-government. Another group of nationalists was the German nationalists who pushed for political unity among the German peoples. The Greeks also rebelled against the Ottoman Empire to make their own government. The final groups were the…
The Irish Republican Army or IRA is Northern Ireland’s most notorious terrorist organization. Like many other groups, the IRA is a militant nationalist group with Marxist tendencies. They use violent attacks such as bombings, assassinations, kidnappings, extortion, and robberies that they used .to send their message. The ultimate goal of the IRA is to use militant behavior to make British rule in Northern Ireland obsolete, thus letting Northern Ireland become an independent republic, instead of two separate countries with different governments.…

A national terrorist group is one that operates in and aspires to political power within a single nation. An example of this type is the Red Brigade. The Red brigade is associated with Italy, because that is where it operates most of the time. This group received a lot of attention when it kidnapped Premier Aldo Moro and Brigadier General Dozier. The Dozier incident was categorized as the beginning of the fifth phase of Red Brigade operations, the move to target other than Italian personnel or property. In December of 1981, the Red Brigade themselves termed this phase as the beginning of the struggle against the "imperialist war"…
Both Bolshevik and Fanonist ideologies focus on the ways in which societies can overthrow existing economic, political, and societal structures that serve as means of oppression and subsequently bring about new systems that are egalitarian and socialist. While both ideologies share this common goal of creating these new socialist orders, the two ideologies vary both in their views on what should be the means to this end, as well as with regards to the question of the role that nationalism should play in this process. In this essay I argue that, while both ideologies may be striving towards the same end goal, their views with regards to nationalism and its place in socialist revolution render these two ideologies fundamentally very different. Marxist ideology, I will maintain, is, at its core, opposed to the concept of nationalism, allowing for the acceptance and mobilization of certain nationalist sentiments only in specific instances when it is viewed as beneficial to the communist cause. Fanon’s ideology, on the other hand, is heavily based in and reliant on the idea that nationalism and national identity are crucial unifying and mobilizing forces without which the transformation to socialist egalitarianism could not take place. Excellent intro!…
The group, Tamil Tigers, claim themselves to be freedom fighters. This report will show, and hopefully convince you, that they are not freedom fighters, but that they are a terrorist group. The use of boys and girls as young as ten years old for wars, suicide missions, and the assassinations of famous leaders, priests, and ministers are a few proofs that Tamil Tigers are terrorist.…
