If people didn’t view the natives differently they would of treated them normal and think of them as equal. When cortes was on his conquest to find the new world, a native person spotted them. The native reported back to their chelf describing the corte’s crew physical features; “strange bodies completely covered, …show more content…
only their faces can be seen. Their skin was white if made of lime. With yellow hair though some have black… Food so large and white, not heavy, tastes of honey, it's a sweet-tasting food… doge are enormous… when motecuhzoma heard this report and was filled with terror as if he were conquered by despair.”(Miguel) Another example would be when columbus was in a voyages almost arriving in new york's when waiting at the shore natives came on to the boat greeting them; “One old man came into the boat, and others cried out, in loud voices, to all the men and women, to come and see the men who had come from the heaven, each bringing something, giving thanks to god, throwing themselves on the ground and shouting to us to come to shore.”(Columbus) Later that day columbus and his crew viewed the natives as simple people. The way they were openly towards them gave them a chance to attack or try to make an attack on each other. “The natives make war on each other, although these are very simple-minded and handsomely-formed people.”(Columbus)
Secondly, stereotypes can spark conflict like war about racism or beliefs from fear on each other from the past stereotypes. Though on the day the spaniards meet the natives and/or indians. The natives exclaimed that the spaniards are “Outcast who came, Spaniards who immediately behaved like ravening wild beasts, wolves, tigers, and lions that had been starved for many day… they are still act like ravening beasts, killing, terrorizing, afflicting, torturing, and destroying the native people.” (De Las Casas) Yet the spanish were not so kind to the natives making them believe that there beast which fits into their past stereotypes on them yet in the past before they acted as ravening animals “Indian regarded the spaniards as angles from the heaven … until the spaniards used violence against them is when they consider them wild beasts. And when fighting against the indian and/or native people the spanished made it only that the “Spared the women and children, man suffered, they enslaved any survivors with these infernal methods of tyranny they debase and weaken countless numbers of those pitiful indian nations.”(De Las Casas) For this reason was simply because the spaniards who called themselves christian wanted to slain all the native rulers so they can acquire gold, and to swell themselves with riches. A hunger for riches as a wild animal. Yet it the perspective changes when columbus is viewed as a god's/highness. Treating him as ruler give him and his crew a chance to take and control them saying “As your highnesses will see from the seven that i caused to be taken, to bring home and learn our language and return ; unless you highnesses should order them all to be brought to castile, or to be kept as captives.” (Columbus) Seeing that none rebelled they considered them very simple-minded and yet handsomely-formed people.”(Columbus)
Lastly the way the spaniards tried fix their actions/justify their actions was by using their religious belief on the natives as in they “it demanded that the conquered peoples accepted spanish rule and christian preaching or risk subjugation, enslavement, and death.” (Council of the castile) This impacted the natives because they were being forced to believe something they didn't know and having rules set that weren’t letting their community live in peace.
They had to “obliged to do to their highnesses .. to receive all the love and so the spanish would leave you, your wives, and your children, free with servitude just convert to our holy catholic faith.” (Council of the castile) And if they decided not to oblige they will “make war against you in all ways and matters that they could, taking you and your family and make them as slaves.”(Council of the castile) This was the idea spainsh had to justify their actions. As for the european people they took a different turn. They decided to “adopt their agriculture abandoned their nomadic ways and live in the villages”(38) but with some there first contact was different as the natives are to opening and simple minded as regards to the use of
arms.(Columbus)
On the other hand, some people say that, having set rules and not letting perspectives influence our actions causes peace among a community.some agree by stating that the fundament of peace are laws. This point makes sense because if people just took the time to understand one another as just following some rules may be conflicted would've been avoided. However, the spanish came to america portray the idea that caloticsm gives a joyful life if the person did not follow these commandments the punishment was death and the victim would be blamed for their penalty.(Council of the castile) and when the native people met cortes on his conquest, the native were very fearful filled with terror just by hearing a report of their description on theres looks and food. How it was all different from their way(De Las Casas).
For this reason, on how perspectives do portray a value on our views, some do view one another as us vs them and others don’t as interactions among the natives and european people were not entirely negative but with the spaniards and native there interactions were beyond normal that it sparked so much conflict that those who tried and fix their actions they just kill them so they fear and wont rebel against them or they just used the church as a way to justify their actions.
