Natural labour is a process of birthing which does not involve the use of a synthetic form of oxytocin called pitocin, which stimulates contractions and dilate the cervix. As oxytocin increases, endorphin increases which reduces pain. In natural labor contractions are gradual, short and mild. As time increases contraction get slower (longer), close together, and more intense. To reduce pain, child labor practitioners use developed techniques to numb pain. Natural labour does not exempt pain and is a course of hours of unmedicated contractions which accounts for majority of the pain. In general, contractions are usually felt in the lower middle abdomen and lower back. They often feel like menstrual cramps and are very common as a pregnancy comes to an end. However, even enduring such pains, the rewards are a lot greater than the actual process. Natural birthing decreases potential risk or harm to the baby and mother, the women loses no sensation or alertness which gives her the control over her body, and decreases the likelihood of intervention. When a woman endures natural labor, the women develops a sense of empowerment and self belief. This is one of the major reason women choose natural labour. Also, the baby receives many benefit, of those, one being that he/she is not likely to gain any birth defects resulting from medications.
