This paper gives insight to the most important Presocratic philosophers and the master themes of Presocratic thought. Many presocratics began to shy away from the idea of speculation and turned to reasoning to express their views. The three basic views of presocratics are Naturalism, materialism, and monism. Naturalism refers to only nature and nothing out of doors of nature seems to exist. Meaning these thinkers are oblivious to the thought of supernatural entities and a god existing outside of nature. Materialism is very much what it sounds like; only matter or material that is physically exist. In other words, no supernatural or no person takes in anything more than their physical existence; meaning they have no soul. Finally, Monism, the belief there is only substance in the universe.
