Qualifications are now not the only thing that recruiters of many company look for; they also look at other factors such as the way you deal with work and the way you communicate with others. They are called soft skills. It can be seen that a lot of students graduating from university with the excellent qualifications can not get a job which they expected. Because, they are lack of soft skills which is very necessary for students’ jobs in the future.
Soft skills" is simply a term relating to a collection of personality traits, positive attributes, social graces, communication abilities and competencies that enhance an employee 's relationship and performance on the job that lead to a "total fit". (Torch, 2013)
There are some benefits of soft skills:
First of all, You need soft skills to create opportunities for yourself. Not only opportunities for job, but also other oppounities in life can you gain.
Secondly, they helps advance your career. You can promote easily if you are good in communicating, leadership and relations with others.
Next, soft skills not only improve your career but also personal growth. They empowers you by helping you to create flexibility for your future.
Soft skills are vital to university students, but not all students are well equipped with these nesscessary skills from their university. Many students still have difficulties in getting a suitable job after graduation. While foreign students are usually active in social activities, Vietnamese students lack skills in these activities. These situation is reflected through the following points:
According to the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA): “Among the total number of graduates every year, over 13% should have additional skills training, nearly 40% have to be coached in the workplace and 41% need time to get acquainted with the work”.
