Nefertiti Akhenaten Analysis
There are two stone sculpture from the New Kingdom. One is in raised relief and of a man named Mai and his wife Urel. These two are not royalty but are relatives of a man named Ramose and this work is from his tomb. They are part of an image of guests seated at a banquet. The second is a sunk relief sculpture of a king from this same time period named Akhenaten. We see him here with his wife Nefertiti and his three daughters, his son was not in this sculpture. This essay focuses on why the stone sculptures will have very different characteristic and in the same period? And what is the fundamental reason behind that? Is historical or artistic style reasons for the changes?

Urel’s skirt leak her breast, has been covered to the foot. On the top, there are the amount of hieroglyphs, I can’t guess the specific meaning, but it did not reflect some religious elements.

Akhenaten his wife Nefertiti and his three daughters, no son in this sculpture, I don’t know the specific reason, but I think because his son will inherit his throne, it’s a threaten for him. the whole image, show the warm and harmonious family scene, under the God Aten. Akhenaten kiss his daughter, and the princess carried in Nefertiti’s arms watch her father. The other princess play with Nefertiti’s earrings. Akhenaten and Nefertiti face to face full of love for each other.

Akhenaten’s whole body is very thin, arms and lower legs are very thin, pendulous abdomen, long face, protruding eyes and spider-like fingers, the fingers are very slender, charming appearance. Moreover, the three princesses also have the same physical characteristics, you can see the princess is sagging abdomen, very long head. So I think this is a symptom due to a hereditary disease. And compare with Mai and his wife Nefertiti, this one has a very different

By comparing the two sculptures of Khafre, image 3-11 ca. 2520-2494 BCE (1), with the statue of Doryphoros (Spear Bearer), image 5-40 ca. 450-440 BCE (2) you get a true sense of the evolution of art, from Pharaonic Egypt to Classical Athenian Greece two millennia later. This was not just a revolution in art but also philosophy, which transported itself into not only the types sculptures created but also the style used by their creators.…

Depicted in the center of The Stele of Prince Ankh-nef-neb is the Prince standing at the right offering a table of gifts to three gods and goddesses. The deities can be identified from their appearances and symbols. Isis with the throne on his head, Horus with the head of a hawk and a crown of Egypt and Min with an erected penis and a flail. Their identities are reaffirmed by hieroglyphics that are carefully inscribed above them. Isis is regarded as the Queen of Goddesses, she was a great healer as well as a magician. Horus is known for ruling the whole of Egypt. His headdress comprises of both the crown of Upper Egypt and Lower Egypt. Min was worshipped by the Egyptians as a fertility and sexuality god. Upon close observation, one would notice that some parts of the stele have been erased. This was done with the purpose of reusing the stele. The visible band of hieroglyphs at the bottom of the stele reads, “We give life, prosperity, and health?”…

With these newfound religious ideas came new beginnings. Again throwing away Egyptian traditions he decided to build a completely different capitol city and abandon Thebes. This idea began the construction of Amarna or horizon of the sun which was built in a desolate land about 200 miles north of Thebes. Akhenaten’s justification for doing so was to escape the influences of the high priests. In the capitol he built the temple of Aten, a very open space that was built to embrace and spread the rays of Aten. In this new settlement he again defies ancient traditions and marries a commoner, Nefertiti. Together they ruled almost equally. Within his regime to further embrace Aten he created the hymn of Aten which praises the sun as the creator of the natural world. This hymn had an overall general message which is life comes from the sun god and is distributed equally. Suddenly, Nefertiti vanished out of existence and historians today still don’t know what became of her. Along with this his mother died as well as one of his daughters sending him into a downward spiral of persecution. Akhenaten went so far as to blame all the gods besides Aten for his…

During the reign of the 18th Dynasty, Akhenaton had made his kingdom very wealthy and powerful, but at the same time he also changed art in his time period which became known as the Amarna Period. Art in the Amarna period was very different from the stiff and unemotional art from the earlier Egyptian dynasties. Akhenaton was very influential on the art; it seemed that he wanted the art to convey real life taking place. Even though portrayal of Akhenaton himself seems exaggerated it seems more life-like then the earlier art, all Pharaohs seemed to look exactly the same with the same body and the same stance. Amarna art shows Akhenaton with a very elongated face, full lips, cat-like eyes and a pudgy stomach. All of…

Akhenaton (Amenhotep IV) was an eighteenth dynasty pharaoh who is known for his attempt to change Egyptian culture and religion. As the younger son of Amenhotep III, he would have not been pharaoh but when his elder brother (crown prince Thutmose) died he had a claim for the thrown and became the Pharaoh of Egypt. Akhenaton had many wives and fathered many children. His wives (or consorts) include Nefertiti and Kiya; some Egyptologists suggest that (like his father) Akhenaton may have taken some daughters as wives or consorts. Akhenaton’s known children are: Tutankhaten (later known as Tuankhamun and King Tut), Smenkhkare, Meritaten, Meketaten, Ankhesenpaaten (later wife of Tuankhamun), Neferneferuaten Tasherit, Neferneferure and…

One of Egypt’s most iconic symbols is a bust of the ancient queen, Nefertiti. Renown for her beauty, power, and mystery, Nefertiti and her husband, Pharaoh Akhenaten, or Amenhotep IV, ruled from 1353 to 1336 B.C. She was the head queen of Egypt and wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten during the 14th century B.C. Together they established the religious mythology of Aten, the sun god, and made it the most important god to worship-- even going to the extent of making the city of Akhetaton to honor their god. One of the greatest women to have ruled, Nefertiti’s husband made it his duty to make her an equal; something that was unheard of for a pharaoh to do, even for their head queen.…

Over the years, artists have developed the practice of studying objects based on their historical context, the styles they portray (with regards to genre, style, design etc.) and most importantly, the message an artist is trying to decimate through the object (Lanciotti 304). As such, the study of objects encompasses a critical analysis of sculptures, paintings, architecture, ceramics, furniture, and other objects that are used for beauty as well as decoration. This paper will thus critically analyze two pieces of art; the Victorious Youth and the Lansdowne Herckales. Originating from the ancient Greece, these works of art are currently found at the J. Paul Getty Museum in the United States of America. These art pieces are both sculptures that were made nearly during the same era hence carrying a lot of Greek history and heritage with them. This paper will thus expound on their formal elements and contexts, their visual similarities and differences and the information they portray in terms of the personality of the artist, the materials used, as well as their mood.…

Queen Nefertiti was much more than a pretty woman. Her role and importance of the 18th dynasty during her husband’s, Amenhotep IV, ruling or Amarna period in Egypt is undeniable. However, not much information has come from antiquity to our hands. Her being or not of a royal blood is not ensured. Even though, the suggestion that Nefertiti was of a nonroyal birth and that her parents were “members of the court circle” (Civilizations of the World, The Human Adventure, p. 29) dominate. It is also suggested that she was a cousin of the pharaoh Amenhotep IV, later Akhenaton.…
