Negative Effects Of King Creon
Capable. Forceful. Vigorous. Creon the leader, the more powerful. Creon's power lets him do anything even though most people don't agree. Power has a negative effect on others because king creon uses his people for his personal gain. King creon shows he has so much power and he can use his people for his personal gain.
In Antigone Creon does not allow people to give their opinions or else they will be punished. For example Creon said “There is no more deadly peril than disobedience; states are devoured by it, homes land in ruins,” This shows that he hates people who show disobedience to him. This also shows that he can do anything bad and the people won't be able to do anything about it. His power can be negative because he is punishing antigone

Creon, a character from the Greek tragedy Antigone, is described as the tragic hero of the story due to the character's flaws and the consequences that followed. Creon's intentions are purely of nationalism for the land he rules, Thebbes. He forbids anyone to show respect to a violent betrayer, but in the process makes tragic flaws. Creon's tragic mistakes can all be embodied by the one question he had asked his son Haemon, “And the city proposes to teach me how to rule?” ( 3.103). Creon is insistent on ruling one his own. Even When the prophet, Teiresias, tried to help the king, Creon was also deaf to his suggestions, even though they were for his well being. When Creon…

Creon, the King of Thebes, and Bernarda, who is the head of her household are the most powerful characters in their plays. Both characters want to have complete control over everything and everyone around them; however both suffer losses as a result of their attitudes and use of power. The main difference between Creon and Bernarda is how they react to these losses and to the challenges to their authority. It is this aspect which the essay will explore.…

We see evidence from the text when it says “since I clearly caught her disobeying the only culprit in the entire city,I won’t perjure myself before the state. No I’ll kill her (lines 744-747). This evidence supports my claim because it tells you what they are really arguing about and what the major conflict is over which is Antigone. The evidence tells you that Creon thinks nothing is wrong with his law but on the other hand his son does not think that it is fair because all she was trying to do was bury her dead…

Creon, the king of Thebes, is an extremely powerful ruler, so much so that many people fear him. In fact, he is so feared, he could even be called a tyrant. The sentry that reports Antigone’s “crime” is nearly shaking in his boots when he tells Creon. In lines 85-87 he says “And all the time a voice kept saying “You fool, don't you know you're walking straight into trouble?””, this shows that he is scared for his life and all he did was send a message. Another…

    Power Corrupt In Antigone

With power, a ruler can control people into not doing what is right. King Creon makes a law where no one can bury Polyneices (his nephew). In the play Antigone by Sophocles King Creon makes a law that says “ Polyneices, I say, is to have no burial” pg. 820. King Creon has a lack of sympathy towards his family members. He doesn't care about Polyneices or about his family members, the law is the law. Creon could have created harmony by letting Polyneices have a burial. King Creon uses his powers to have the upper hand against all people.…

In some respects Creon is seen as a positive character, in others as an antagonist. However, if one sees it from a different perspective, it's obvious that Creon is the victim of fate and his own flaws, making him a tragic hero. His first misfortune was to fall from the grace of his people when saying that Antigone should die for her actions. "Your people are beginning to question your judgment and are beginning to side with Antigone." (256-257) This scene is very ironic! Creon is actually trying to maintain his authority by being a ruler of his word, but he is actually losing respect. Creon's present situation foreshadows unrest and growing calamity within his own family. The idea of him losing…

He thinks his methods are always the right and best ones, but of course he is only human, therefore, he makes blunders just like everyone else. If he hadn't have had such rigid opinions, he could perhaps have listened to his son's suggestions and opinions about Antigone's fate, whether she should perish or live, and considered the possibilities. King Creon listened to no one's recommendations or ideas but his own, therefore causing him to seem headstrong and obstinate. You could also say King Creon was pigheaded, meaning stubborn, because as you know, he heeded no one's advice and did only what pleased him.…

In Antigone by sophocles, Creon uses his power poorly. He uses his power for him and only him, not caring about the results or how his family feels. For example he says antigone must die for doing the noble thing, which was giving her brother a proper burial. Antigone is basically a daughter to him, she is marrying Haimon, creon's son. Haimon is not okay with this so he talks to his father, but he won't budge.…

He shows no mercy to anyone even if they are family and in that sense is the one who causes all the suffering. Creon sentence both his nieces, Antigone and Ismene to death, even though he wasn't going to really punish Ismene for breaking the law; he was the reason for his own anangke. Creon felt like he was so powerful since he was the king, but enforcing his rule about burying Polynices was a hamartia. In the end Creon learned how being loyal to his state only caused pain and suffering for not only himself but his family as well. He may have been happy with showing he was the king but didn't think twice if he was being loyal to his family. The choices Creon made were based more on his pride and loyalty to himself and of course the state caused his own son and wife to take their lives, leaving him with such heartache and pain. Creon said, “so senseless, so insane...my crimes/my stubborn, deadly”(1394-1395). Explaining how his loyalty to himself was just what it was he never thought he would be the one in so much pain because of his mistake he made by willing to punish Antigone for breaking a rule he decided to put in place. If he would have just put his ego and pride aside and let Antigone off with a less punishment he would have still stayed loyal to his state but would have also showed loyalty to his family as…

Next, Antigone says to Creon, “All those here would confirm this please them if their lips weren’t sealed by fear - being king, which offers all sorts of various benefits, means you can talk and act just as you wish.” and Creon responds with “In all of Thebes, you’re the only one who looks at things that way.” (572-577). This quote shows how arrogant Creon is and how he doesn’t realize what she is saying true but no one would say anything because they are scared of him. This shows how people fear Creon because of the power he has and that he could and would do anything to them if they were to speak up. Also, Creon and his son Haemon start arguing. “You’re the worst there is - you set your judgement up against your father.” “No, not when I see you making a mistake and being unjust.” (845-848). This quote is showing how Creon’s son Haemon sees that what he is doing isn’t right and that his power is driving him to do dumb things. It also shows that the power Creon has from being king is going to his head and He is doing things he shouldn't be doing. As you can see this shows how Creon is being is driven by…

In Nussbaum’s interview she talks about the political leader and how their role is important in society, she says, “And so they have the image often of the person as like a plant, something that is fairly sturdy, that has a definite structure, but that is always in need of support from the surrounding society. And the political leader in that image is like the gardener, who has to tend to the plant” (4). Creon has to make sure the society is just and anybody who is a traitor to the city must be executed. Creon is in a rough position because in The Republic there is a question of how can you determine who is just or unjust? Because the unjust who seem just are the ones that get rewarded and the ones that are truly just get neglected. This relates to Creon because he has to make these kinds of decisions and he could be executing people that are actually just. That is why at the end of the play he is left alone, drowning in his own…

As once said by Nelson Mandela “A good leader can engage in a debate frankly and thoroughly, knowing that at the end he and the other side must be closer, and thus emerge stronger. You don't have that idea when you are arrogant, superficial, and uninformed.” Only when you meet that criteria can you be considered a good leader, however in Sophocles’ book Antigone once a crime has been committed not only is the guilty killer put on trial but whether or not Creon is a good leader is put on trial as well. Admittedly Creon does show some positive qualities as a leader however he does not fully meet the criteria. In order for a leader to be considered capable of being a good leader one must lack arrogance and cannot solely react off of emotion.…

Another theme present in both books is tyrrany. In Antigone, Creon is in many ways a sympathetic character, but he abuses his power subtly - mainly by decreeing man 's law as a consequence of divine will. His faults do not necessarily stem from a lust for power, for he often has noble…
