With power, a ruler can control people into not doing what is right. King Creon makes a law where no one can bury Polyneices (his nephew). In the play Antigone by Sophocles King Creon makes a law that says “ Polyneices, I say, is to have no burial” pg. 820. King Creon has a lack of sympathy towards his family members. He doesn't care about Polyneices or about his family members, the law is the law. Creon could have created harmony by letting Polyneices have a burial. King Creon uses his powers to have the upper hand against all people.
Additionally, by
having authority you can manipulate others into something that doesn't benefit them. For example, Hitler used his power by trying to get rid of all the Jews and other minorities in Germany. This shows that Hitler had a lack of respect for people and didn't like diversity. He convinced the Jews that they were going to get a better life, but instead they were killed. Hitler could have came up with a better solution to get all the Jews out of Germany instead of murdering all of them. He used his power to get what he wanted and didn't think about anyone else.
Sometimes power can be great if it's in the hands of a responsible leader, but that isn't the case in a lot of situations. Negative power can have a tremendous affect on people and our societies.
