When looking to determine how humans make decisions and why they chose to act certain ways over others, one theory is libertarianism. Libertarianism uses free thinking as the sole idea behind free will. Other theories about how humans make decisions are hard determinism and soft determinism. Hard determinism describes the decision-making process based solely on determinism and not free will; whereas, soft determinism is uses both determinism and free will as its support. These other theories about free will both use the idea of determinism as a main source of support for decision-making. Not using determinism is a spurious negative of the theory of libertarianism, because it does not allow prior factors to have any impact on decision-making.
Other theories use determinism as support; however, using free will by itself provides a clear and accurate depiction of how decisions are made.
