‘Ayurveda’ is a Sanskrit word, made up of the words ‘ayus’ (life) and ‘veda’ (knowledge or science). ‘Ayurveda’ thus means 'the knowledge of life' or 'the science of life'. Ancient Ayurvedic scholar Charaka informs that ‘ayu’ comprises of four parts- mind, body, senses and soul. Ayurveda is said to have been created by Lord Brahma himself .
