Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was a South-African civil rights activist. Nelson Mandela was born into the Madiba clan in the village of Mvezo on 18 July 1918. He was the first black president in South-Africa. Nelson Mandela was the first president that were chosen democratically and he ruled from 1994 to 1999. He was educated lawyer and later became a politician. Mandela was leader of the batch ANC which stands for African national congress. ANC got 62% of the wotes and then Mandela became president of South-Africa.
When Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela was 12 years old his dad died. Nelson Mandela´s dad named Nkosi Mphakanyiswa Gadla Mandela was chief of Mveso where Nelson grew up. When his father died he and his mother Nonqaphi Nosekeni moved to Qunu where his uncle Jongintaba Dalindyebo was. Nelson Mandela was raised by his uncle the rest of his childhood.
When Rolihlahla Mandela went to primary school he got the name Nelson from his teacher Miss Mdingane. Mandela got this name from his teacher because everyone had to have a christian name. Today it´s schools all over the world called Nelson Mandela School. It´s a Nelson Mandela school in Germany, United Kingdom, Canada and others.

The 5 of march 1984 there were released a song called “Free Nelson Mandela”. The song was written by British musician Jarry Dammers and the band where called “The Special A.K.A.
