Measles is a highly contagious disease that can cause serious illness and later on complications such as deafness and pneumonia, and unfortunately it can potentially lead to death. Recently ten cases involving measles have been discovered in Quebec, eight in Ontario and also several more cases in other countries. However, the first case in Quebec was linked to the famous theme park - Disneyland – in California which is also linked to 114 cases in the United States. Ontario’s specialists quote, “It is important for people to be fully immunized against this serious disease; it’s the best way to prevent measles and its spread.” A lot of parents are under the impression that this vaccination is unnecessary so their children don’t receive this vaccine, however the vaccine is the only thing that can protect them from catching the easily spread disease. This article was written from the perspective of the centers of Disease Control and Prevention in Canada. There is a hint of bias in this article because it is all in favor of the vaccination and how essential it is in order to prevent the disease from spreading further. This article is very informative because before I didn’t know about how contagious and fatal this disease could be and what consequences it can have. It made me realize just how important it is to get vaccinations to prevent myself from this disease. It is estimated that one child in a 1000 will develop a brain disease, and from the 1000 that get infected one or two will die, you may be passing by someone and get infected without even noticing, so it is important to be aware of such disease.
