Next: The Future Just Happened by Michael Lewis
The book Next: The Future Just Happened, by Michael Lewis, highlights the coming of the age of the internet and its effects on society. I thoroughly enjoyed the insights throughout the book as it caused me to think drastically about the way I use technology, and what that means to not only myself but to society as a whole. While reading I have been able to make correlations between technology advancements with previous classroom discussion topics while studying at Weber State University.
There are many takeaways found within the text, but there are a few overlapping ideas I would like to focus on which come about through the means of the internet:
1) People can be whoever they want to be, which may bring about new legal and ethical issues.
2) Individuals and society can become “experts” in various fields of study, which has impacted the job market.
3) The public can be very trusting of material found on the internet.
4) The flow of information has changed shape from a pyramid to a pancake.
