Nicknames: Pseudonym and People
Nicknames
People are named when they are born, but are they happy with their name? Many people stay happy and just like their name. Others decide that they will live with it. However, some people are really angry with their parents, or the name they are given. On the other side, why do parents name their child a bad name? Sometimes, parents name their kids pretty names, but the child thinks it’s ugly. So really, it depends on the personality of the person and how the person will react to different things.
Why do people really change their name, legally? Statistics show that most people do that, because they dislike it. That’s the top reason. Another reason is that their name is spelled difficult or/and pronounced. Isn’t Sara easier to pronounce than Magdalene? Most people make a nickname for themselves. For example, Magdalene could have become Maggie, or Dal. Which makes their name easier to pronounce and spell. One more good reason people change their name, is rich names. Can you imagine having a life in legitimate theatre with the name Bruce Hitler? Won’t it be just easier to change your name to Brce Hyer! Some names, it’s just better not to have.
There are many other reasons why people change names. Sometimes they can be very weird, confusing, or just have a bag meaning. However, people still do it. I don’t think I would change my name. Why bother? Isn’t it easier to get a nickname? Then you still have your name legally, but people call you the name you like! I would rather do that. Other people decide to change it, and many of them start a new life with the new name. Some people say they start from a new page. I think that’s possible 

Chapter 6 of this book talks about whether or not the name that a parent give their child matters. Levitt provides an example about a New York City man who was named Robert Lane, he named his first son Winner and then named his next son Loser. Despite what his name suggests, Loser Lane succeeded in life, moving up in the NYPD. Winner Lane however, has been arrested nearly thirty six times. He tells a story of a woman who named her daughter Temptress, meaning to name her Tempest, the girl went on to do things like inviting men over while her mother was at work. Levitt then asks the question, does the name given to a child affect his life?…

I can connect with Piggy with the name calling because my real name is Mackenzie but everyone calls me Mac. No one really thinks that my name is Mackenzie so it’s surprising to them when they find out but there’s been times where people find out and try to use it in a negative way. Either they will try to call me Mackenzie or insist on the name being a girl’s name. Usually they forget about my name being Mackenzie and just call me Mac but I’ve had a similar experience where I didn’t want people to know my name.…

You also only have one chance to make that name correspond with positive reactions versus being shone in a negative light. Your name is your legacy, your pride, and your future. John Proctor knows this, and is very adamant in keeping his good name specifically in this quote from The Crucible, “ Because it is my name! Because I cannot have another in my life! Because I lie and sign myself to lies! Because I am not worth the dust on the feet of them that hang! How may I live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name!” (Act IV; 284-290) In a way, I can understand how people may view this argument differently. Life is important, without it you couldn’t have built up or torn down your name and identity. But my counter-argument to this would be that there’s no point to life if you have a horrible name and…

This can change a person’s behavior or personality, which makes up the identity. To further explain, each character has lived through experience that they never thought they would. The boys from Lord of the Flies have landed on an island where they have committed murder. This experience definitely gives a new point of view. When they did get saved and they got to back home, they will always have these moments in their mind. They will remember what happened on that island and this will definitely switch their lifestyle. In Twelfth Night, the outcome is less negative and more positive. Because Sebastian may have gotten in a fight, but he did win it. And he got beautiful wife. Viola got melodramatic husband that she loves. So being mistaken for each other may be annoying but thanks to that mistake, they got to live happily. For as long their marriages will last. Lastly, in Everyday, it's saddening to know that A has gotten a few 16 year old kids in trouble for a girl. That they knew they could never be with for longer than a day at a time. This resulted in them gaining the beliefs that they could potentially have a life of their own. In a body they could have for longer than a day. It is horrible to think that for A to learn how to stay in the body for longer they will be taking the life of someone else. But in their perspective it's a good thing because they have suffered every day from not having a family, or friends that stay with them. They have changed from who they were in the beginning of their adventure of meeting a girl to someone that’s living for themself and acting on their own…

Neil found a false sense of belonging with his name change. Good on him for doing it, as this stopped majority of people making fun of his name and as he said, “I could feel their approval at the effort I was making to fit in.” To be honest, I believe most people that would of been in this situation may have done the same thing, as us Aussie’s can be really harsh to people with different names or colour of skin.…

In my community, the parents have the opportunity to chose the child’s name before or after he or she is born. In The Giver, names are given at the Ceremony of Ones by the Nurturers. The Ceremony of Ones is when 1 year old babies are given their names and are given to their family units by the Nurturers. The Ceremonies are when all of the children under 12 are given new responsibilities. There is an example in the book of when Fiona, Jonas’ friend, doesn't like her brothers name and says, “He’s cute, but I don’t like his name very much.” This quote from the book means that she didn’t like her brother’s name given by the Nurturers at The Ceremony of…

In this paper, I will investigate the "Problem of Personal Identity". The particular scenario I will respond to is: "Suppose that sometime in the future a crazy scientist creates a perfect clone of you. The clone has a qualitatively identical body to yours and has the same memories as you as well as same voice, character, and so on. How would yo convince a court of law that the clone is not really you? What theory of personal identity would help you to make your case" (Rauhut, 2011, p. 125)? First I will clarify key terms, and then I will apply those terms in my analysis of the question. Then I will close out by reflecting on my conclusion and some insights I gained about the Problem of Personal Identity.…

How many uncomfortable situations would I avoid by changing it, or scraping it off of my life once and for all. I guess it would make a substantial 180 degree turn in my life, but I would rather get interrogated a thousand times than change my last name. Aside from being something I was immediately born with, it is one of the few things that define me as an individual. Though not many look at it my way, I proudly hold on to it due to the enormous significance it holds. This word is a synonym for family and unity, which is the foundation of everything around me. With this, being content is the most important aspect a person has to focus on. Personally, my family brings joyfulness into my heart and is the one that can push me away from darkness. They are the building blocks who have helped me grow and stood by me since I was first born. Metaphorically speaking, my last name is the honorable representation of who I am as a person and the relationship I have with the people around me. So, why would I give up something so precious for the avoidance of something so…

I was supposed to be named Rachel. It was a compromise, my mother told me, from what my dad had picked: Raquel. Growing up, I had a friend named Rachel that was nothing like me: soft, composed, and the sweetest smile. As it is hebrew, the name comes from the biblical name meaning “O Beautiful One” or “female sheep”. While this is nice and all, it was much more fitting for my friend. Never could or would I pick the animal the sheep to describe myself.…

Pseudonyms, or fictitious names, have been used by authors for many years, and they have become a commonplace occurrence. In fact, many iconic books such as “Animal Farm” and the Harry Potter series have been written by authors using pen names. Pen names have been used to help writers get their work published, whether they’ve been needed to overcome bias or sell more books to a certain demographic. They allow writers to hide their identities which oftentimes have many advantages. Authors may opt to write under a pen name because it can give them the freedom to write without being limited by expectations or “hype”, allow them to overcome bias, and create new opportunities.…

Jay Gatsby is the striking example of such a person. James Gatz — that was his real name. His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people — his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all. Apparently, even before he had the means, Jimmy had a plan – his desire to escape his circumstances and make a name for himself. From a young age, Jimmy knew that he was capable of great things, perhaps even destined for them. He had changed his name at the age of seventeen when he decided to change his life. It was some kind of symbol, action that crosses, cancels the past, intention to change his destiny. And that is what he actually did. As far as we can tell, he spent his whole youth training for his big break, and when it drifted into the harbor in the form of Dan Cody’s yacht, he was ready for it.…
