What is the overall idea of this philosophy?
The overall idea of Marx’s philosophy is the working class deserves equality, freedom, basic needs and justice. If this is not provided for the general population, then they must revolt.
Machiavelli believed only one man should rule as a monarch chosen by divine right. This ruler should enforce order and protect the people. To enforce order, cruelty and deception are needed. The ruler is not obligated to do anything else.

Marx believes the purpose of the government is to spread wealth amongst all, fight against corruption and for equality, and provide the basic needs for life. The government should be controlled by the people.
Under this philosopher’s system, what could people do if they were unhappy with their ruler?
In Machiavelli’s system, the people could do nothing if they were unhappy with their ruler. The ruler would have total power over the people by inspiring fear and using lies to pacify the people.
On the other hand, in Marx’s system, the people could overthrow or rebel against the government and upper class if they were dissatisfied. If the rebellion succeeds, they could form a new, fair government.

Applying Philosopher’s Ideas
1. How would Machiavelli run BHS?
If Machiavelli ran Beaverton High School, Chuck would be appointed as the dictator. Teachers who don’t follow the standards would be fired. Students would have no choice on electives. Students arriving late to class, chewing gum or not turning in their homework would be whipped. Those who did not agree with the system would also be whipped. Machiavelli would not allow a school board.
If Marx ran BHS, teachers would be overthrown. Students would decide how to teach themselves. Hours would be more flexible. There would be no class restrictions. All school related issues would be voted on by the students.
2.Would would they say about closed campus and electives?
Machiavelli would agree to closed campus. There would be no choice of electives, Machiavelli would choose them for you.
Karl Marx would advocate for an open campus. No elective would be unavailable to a student. Even if the class is filled or the prerequisites haven’t been met.
