Nicholas II ‘s rule was, in my opinion a very powerful time. One reason is because he ruled for a very short time. He only ruled for 23 years, roughly half of his life. Another reason is because he was not only Russia’s last emperor, murder and the murder of his family was the absolute end to the Romanov dynasty. Nicholas faced several military defeats during his rule. Japan launched a surprise attack on the Russian fleet that was based at Port Arthur in 1904-1905. Its defeat damaged the Russian Prestige. It brought down with it, the esteem of the monarchy. He also had to face several defeats and losses during The Great War, World War 1.
When Germany decided to enter into The Triple Alliance with Austria-Hungary and Italy, Russia logically saw Germany as a potential enemy, enemy, even though Czar Nicholas II was Kaiser Wilhelm’s cousin. Consequently Russia entered into the Triple Entente with Great Britain and France in 1914. Russia came into war on France’s side.
The war temporarily brought an end to the industrial unrest in Russia that started in 1904. However, later it returned. The war also brought Nicholas II political benefits. Russia stood behind him.
