North High School: A Short Story
Rough Draft Quincy Smith pd.4
My story takes place at North High School. The story involves, me, my dad, my mom, my grandma, Norths basketball team, and my basketball team. The mood is sad, and amazing. My team against North's team is the main conflict. We are both trying to win, and we have our game faces on during the whole game. My dad was the coach of my team during this time.
Me and my friend named Tyler were the only ones who were good on that team. Tyler was gone during this game so I had to do pretty much everything. We were winning at halftime, so my dad tried to get the players in who weren't as good. North came back and was winning, so my dad put me back in. There was about 5 minutes left and we were losing by only like 2. I took

In the essay, “How schools shortchange boys,” by Gerry Garibaldi, I agree on boys tuning out in a “newly feminized classroom.” Girls may out number boys in graduating from high school with a diploma, but boys give up on school, because they don’t want to be like girls. “Girls are calm and pleasant,” while boys are aggressive and are rationalists. Since girls just do what they are told and write what they need to, for example a project. While girls turn in their assignment days in advance, boys demand when they were given the assignment and act in a disruptive manner. A female teacher might take this as being disrespectful. The disapproval of a female teacher “has a powerful effect on male psyche.” Males squirm from the disapproval when they…

After the third and fourth quarter we ended the game 44-6 with 36 points scored by me. Third quarter 12 points were made by me, and fourth quarter one 3 point shot was scored by me. After the game was over we went and got ice cream for the whole team. We all chose our favorite ice cream then devoured our ice creams as a team. After the ice cream we made a promise to each other that we weren’t going to lose a game at all this season, and we all went home and I will always remember this basketball game and how good of a team we were. This is my story, what is…

Williams Elementary School is located just off of interstate 75 and home of the mighty Eagles. From the outside it has the appearance of a typical school with screaming students, rushing parents, and screeching buses. It is made out of boring brown bricks and beige stucco boarding near the top of the building. The inside features a prison-like setup, only with more vibrant colors. There is a double door leading into an office with multiple faculty and staff. In order to actually enter the school, you have to be buzzed in by the round and hyper man at the main desk. Once in the building, you will see that it is shaped like a large square with hallways extending from four sides. The hallways are full of colorful painting of eagles, laminated…

Growing up my mom has always encouraged my siblings and I to continue our education to as far as college. My mother never really got the chance to attend college because her family could not afford to put all their kids in school. She had seven siblings and an extra bill for school was not something her parents were able to afford. I consider myself really lucky to be alive in a time where there are so many opportunities to be able to afford college. If it were not for scholarships and financial aid, my mother’s story would be repeated once again. Through financial aid, the door for a college career is opened for me and I’m willing to enter it. My biggest motivator to push myself academically has been my…

When I started Unity High School I thought that we were going to get a lot of work from my classes, and that work was going to be extremely hard. I also thought that I wasn't going to have any free time to do anything because of that, but it turned out to be wrong because the teachers give us a good amount of work but its not really hard. I thought that making friends in Unity would be hard in a sort of way but it was quit easy because everyone else was trying to make friends too. When I first got to Unity I also thought that there was going to be a few school clubs, but there is a good amount of clubs that students can join if they want to join some type of club. I think as a person I have grown more since first coming to Unity because I…

For the past two years, on the 1st Monday of the month I have participated in Site Council meetings at my high school along with other Associated Study Body (ASB) members, our principal, school administrators, parents, and teachers. Frequently it was brought up that minorities were not as involved in our school as majority groups. ASB has always been dominated by white students and as a Latina, I found it very intimidating when I joined.…

We are very fortunate to have an alternative campus in our school district. Shannon High School is for students that have fallen behind in their credits, have dropped out of school and have decided to return to school, or feel like they do not fit in at one of our main traditional campuses. Shannon classes are small, and students have the opportunity to be successful and earn their high school diploma. Tammy Wright is one of the wonderful teachers at Shannon High School. Ms. Wright is a business and marketing teacher at Shannon as well as a school aged parent coordinator on campus. Furthermore, Ms. Wright serves as an advisor to the student organization, DECA. It was a pleasure to sit down with Ms. Wright and ask her a few questions about her…

Asheville School is terrific, and my favorite parts are the campus, boarding, and the athletics. Asheville School has an very old beautiful campus. This school has a large campus with brick buildings. The campus has been around since 1900. This school is a boarding school. This means for an extra cost, you can rent and live on campus in small dorms. Because of this, if I have friends that live on campus I am allowed to sleep in their dorms if I need to. Asheville School also has a awesome athletics program. They have football, soccer, baseball, basketball and many other sports. There is also mountaineering which is a bunch of different activities such as rock climbing, white water kayaking and mountain biking. I really like Asheville School…

In the Lake Side School of history, dark and gloomy stories ruled the school. These dark stories gave the students the fear and discipline that would never have come came to normal students. why? But in the midst of all the students, there was one student named Billy Longnose who wasn't the average Lake Side student. For one, he often roamed the school's underground passages that had long been abandoned by students and staff.how does this compare to normal students there? The tunnel floors were mostly faded and covered with dirt and grime. The walls paint was faded to a mere faded wood surface, while some of the walls and roof were partially or fully collapsed. Meanwhile the old cafeteria's old wood chairs and cabin wood tables…
