As in the novel The House on Mango Street, Esperanza tells us that Nenny and her have things in common; however, at times they do not look like sisters. Just like them my sister and I are the similar to them we have some things in common but don’t quite look like sisters. “But me and Nenny, we are more alike than you would know. Our laughter for example” said Esperanza (pg.17), what she tries to tell us here is that Nenny and her may not look like sister right away, but when you start to see the similarities you start to notice they are sister. Like Esperanza, my sister and I really don’t look alike, but at times people can see our common similarities. For example, just like their laughter, my sisters and my laugh are about the same. Some siblings may not all look alike; on the other hand, like Esperanza and Nenny there is a way to tell they are sisters.
Esperanza explains to us in “Hairs” Nenny and her do not have the same kind of hair. My sister and I do not have the same kind of hair, my hair is straight and flat, but my sister’s hair is frizzy and wavy. What Esperanza tries to express in “Hairs” is that sister may not look alike, or even seem like they are related. For example, when Esperanza quoted that she and Nenny have different hair, she said “And me, my hair is lazy. It never obeys barrettes or bands....Nenny’s hair is slippery-slides out of your hands.” (pg.6), she
