11/25/13 NOVEL VS. FILM
As with all novels that are adapted into film changes must be made to fit with the tone of the movie Jurassic park is no exception. The changes can range from the smallest plot point to the biggest. It can be from changing a character personality and behavior to his or her appearance to changing a character fate. A character that might have survived in the novel but died in the movie or the other way around Jurassic park has a few examples of this. Characters that had larger role in the novel but become nothing more than a background character. Jurassic Park suffers a lot from these changes making the novel a different experience from the movie. You could tell off right from the beginning of the film what changes were made from the novel to end of the film. One major change was the opening chapters. Right off from the start of the movie is completely different in the novel. A teenager around the age of eighteen is attacked by a raptor and is taken to hospital to meet Dr. Roberta Carter where he dies from his injuries. While in the film it is a grown man who is killed instead. He is never taken to hospital and Dr. Roberta Carter is never seen or mentioned in the film. A part that was changed from the novel was the family visiting Costa Rica where the daughter named Tina is attacked by Procompsognathus. This scene is never shown in the film neither is the family. But that part is used in the sequel the lost world in the film version. Another part that was not used is when Marty Gutierrez finds the half-eaten body of a Procompsongathus. Where he sends the body to some scientist in New
York to be identified. It is to never shown or mentioned in the film neither is Marty Gutierrez.
