Nowruz is celebrated in Iran for four consecutive days at the beginning of Spring and is the national longest holiday. People take advantage of this long holiday to travel to other cities or some prefer to stay at home , relax and visit family and friends. The history of Nowruz goes back to thousands of years ago. Persians admired nature and particularly Sun was considered as a source of energy and life. Winter was the sign of darkness and dormant time and the advent of Spring was considered as the victory of light (Truth) over darkness (Evil). One of the implications of this myth is the tradition called “Wednesday Feast”. It is held on the last Wednesday of the year and people make bonfire to celebrate fire as the symbol of Sun and light. Other traditions involved in Nowruz are cleaning home, visiting family and friend and especially older ones , and giving gifts to younger ones. Cleaning home is a must and everybody in a family participate in it . The home should be clean thoroughly and completely as a sign of respect to the rejuvenation of the nature.
