Organizational Structure and Culture
Without structure, there will be chaos. Any business, no matter how big or small, requires structure. There are seven key influences that have a role in developing an organizational structure. They are history, primary function and technology, goals and objectives, size, location, management and staffing, and the environment (Coyle, 2009).
Types of Organizational Structures
There are two main types of organizational structures; a traditional organizational structure and a service line structure. The traditional organizational structure consists of functional structures, hybrid structure, matrix structure, and parallel structure. These are more common in non-medical businesses. A service-line structure is more common in today’s health care organizations (Sullivan, p. 17, 2013). Service-line structures focus on patient care. First, Fort Bliss, Texas, is located by the Mexican border. According to (Plan El Paso (2012), "Eighty-two percent of the population is Hispanic.” Many of the civilian staff working in the SFCC bring their culture to work with them. Many of the civilian staff tend to speak Spanish to one another, sometimes annoying the rest of the non-Spanish-speaking staff. Another aspect to consider is that many Soldiers have been deployed to a combat environment. They do tend to have more respect for providers who have done the same. Generational influences also have a part in the health care delivery. The younger Soldiers seem to respond better to the lower ranking health care providers.
