Nurse Faculty Shortage Case Study
Nurse faculty members serve to adequately prepare individuals to function in critically important roles, which promote better outcomes of both patients and the field of healthcare. Presently, an identified shortage of adequately prepared nursing faculty members is proving to be problematic to the successful completion of this responsibility. Prompt recognition and implementation of strategies based on evidence are of critical importance to solving the identified problem. In the present paper, the problem of the nurse faculty shortage is studied. For this study, appointed was the research question: what are the most effective evidence-based strategies to address the nurse faculty shortage? Through a conducted search of evidence-based literature
from the use of EBSCOhost, Google Scholar, and Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature with full text databases, using identifier keywords nurse faculty shortage, nurse faculty, nurse faculty shortage solutions, and global nurse faculty shortage, and dates of publication between 2010 and 2015 supporting references were chosen. Evidence-based findings focus on solutions from both the retention and recruitment of faculty members. Implications for clinical practice hinge on a share responsibility of both nurse faculty members as well as administrative bodies. Overall, for the healthcare of the world to improve, nurses must be present to provide care. This outcome can only become possible by first solving the dilemma caused by the nurse faculty shortage.
