A C-section or Caesarean section is a type of surgery used to deliver a baby. The baby is surgically removed through an incision in the mother's abdomen and then a second incision in the uterus. Some C-sections are planned, but many are done when unexpected problems happen during delivery. The surgery is relatively safe for mom and baby. It’s still considered a major surgery and carries multiple risks. It’s also a longer recover time from a C-section than from a vaginal birth. It can raise the risk of having difficulties with future pregnancies. Caesarean deliveries have been linked with a variety of different factors from rising rates of obesity and diabetes, to multiple births and increased maternal age.
