Nursing Case Study Karen Thomas
Karen Thomas, is a 65-year-old female who visits our hospital frequently. Previously, she has been to our Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) for multiple falls, dehydration, alcohol withdrawal and Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA). She was never married, retired, low income and lives at senior citizen home alone. She is currently on Medicare. She does not have any children. She has a sister who lives 15 miles away from her place. I remember her because she is a nonadherence patient who completely ignores any healthcare professionals advise, is mean to the healthcare staffs and always threating to leave Against Medical Advice (AMA). She came to the hospital 2 months ago for multiple falls and had fracture of her hip. She could barely walk but refused
the bedpan and walked to the bathroom without any assisting with shuffling gait and yelling at the staffs for keeping her at the hospital.
