By 2025 43% of women in the United States and 45% of men will be obese, which is 1 in 5 people, according to CNN. In 2015 38.3% of women and 34.3% of men were obese, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The outcome shown from this is obesity is spreading rapidly in the United States and all around the World. Even with this information people sit by and allow obesity to spread, when there are solutions to this problem. This problem is continuing to rise. Obesity is a disease since it damages normal functions of the body, reduces life expectancy, and medical groups recognize obesity as a disease. To begin with, obesity impairs the normal functions of the body, just like almost all diseases accomplish. As identified by Harvard,

This is significant because a medical group wouldn’t view something as a disease if it wasn’t. Studies show that obesity is sometimes hereditary, just like height. It is also true that obesity is a risk factor for other diseases, however the point that obesity is a disease still stands because obesity fits the definition of disease. The definition of disease is a condition of a living body or a part of it that impairs normal functioning and is distinguished by signs and symptoms according to Merriam-Webster. Obesity impairs the normal functioning of the body, has symptoms such as excessive body fat, and may come with pain in back or joints. This shows obesity fulfills the definition of
