Food Monster The rate of obese people in America continues to increase at an alarming rate; one way to decrease these numbers is by making healthier food more convenient. The obesity rate would drastically decrease if there were more farmer markets in the city, if people were to go home to cook their own meals, and cut fast food from their diets. Though, because people are more prone to buying cheap convenient food with low nutritional value they are, in turn, sacrificing their health in the process.
Fast food is everywhere around us from the time we wake up to the time we go home to stop and get dinner at a greasy restaurant. Most of us who eat from these same restaurants are not sure of the ingredients in the restaurant’s food or where it comes from. America is always moving at such a fast pace that now most of us don’t even have the time to closely examine the food we consume. One of the main reasons for obesity in America today is that no one has the time anymore to make a healthy lifestyle a priority in their life.
Because of this harsh reality calculation statics have shown that “…one-third of U.S. adults (37.7%) are obese [in America (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Every year this number has increased since the late 1990’s, and this number does not even include overweight youth in America (Palo Alto Medical Foundation). Obesity is something that can weaken your overall well being and shorten your life expectancy. It can bring social and mental illnesses in a person’s life as well as cause stress. Some studies can even prove direct links to obesity and physical sicknesses like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, and some forms of cancer. This can prove that if you don’t put healthy things into your body then your body will not keep you healthy.
