The assignment represent what sociology is known as the Observational Method. It is also called field research, and consist in “Directly observing people in their natural social environment, ranging in types: observing and interviewing people where they live, work, and play” (Kendal, 2010, p. 15)

The overall function of the organization is provide a great variety of educational, social, cultural, and recreational activities for youth between the ages of 5 to 18. Besides to offer a safety place and activities, Boys & Girls Club also provide a healthy meal to all its participants.

How did you feel as you were working?
While I was working, I felt that I need to get involved a little bit more to help children in Bakersfield. One of my dreams is to open an after school neighborhood program, but between family, work, and school my schedule is very tight. Probably when I finish my school my dream could be true.
5. What other issues are related to those addressed by your service work? Explain
Other issues related to those addressed by my service work include parenting work and the care of their children. Working parents really need a place for their children to spend their time after school meanwhile they get back home. Boys & Girls Club is a program that fulfill all children aspiration providing an arts and crafts area, gymnasium, library, game room, and a multi-purpose room.
6. Has your work helped to clarify the dynamics of any social issue? Explain
Talking with the students and parents about the importance of to have a safe place for their children while they get home, helped to clarify the dynamics of this social issue. Although, some parents have to pay a little fee at Boys & Girls Club, for most of them, the program is free.
