Observation Participation Assignment
Living outside the Richmond city limits created a barrier to access any resource agency from my location. I would have to drive 20 minutes into town to have any access to the public transit system. The place I visited to participate in the observation participation assignment was Senior Connections. This agency was chosen because it is a potential field placement for me. I have never been to this agency, just found it researching different resource centers in the area. This agency was also chosen because of the senior population it serves and the services they provide. The experience I had during the bus ride was trouble, but the experience at the agency was very educational. I start by researching potential buses, routines, and locations to
start my journey. I went onto the transit system website to acquire the necessary information for my journey. In order to plan a trip, a person must be familiar with the area. I am not all that familiar with the Richmond city area yet. I could not access the appropriate buses that travel to and from my destination. I had to first found out how the transit system organized Senior Connections onto their buses route locations map. In order to have access to scheduling information a person would have access to a computer or download the transit app. I decided to use Google maps to help me navigate through the public bus system. I tried to catch the bus at the Baptist church on north meadow street and west grove avenue. I arrived 10 minutes early and opened up Google maps to see when the bus would arrive. The map said it would arrive in a couple of minutes. As the time pass, the map reported that the bus had already departed. I waited around for a couple of more minutes to see if it was just running late and the bus never came. So I researched when the next bus would arrive and the map took me it would take another hour for the bus to come back around. I then went back onto the transit system website to find a different bus to ride that was leaving in the next 30 minutes. So I found a bus that was a little closer to the agency but because The Virginia Commonwealth University is located in the center of
