Odysseus In The Epic Poem, The Odyssey

In the epic poem, The Odyssey, Odysseus is a Greek hero that fought in the Trojan War. After the war, Odysseus got lost for ten years, which led people to believe that he died. But he is alive, trapped in a land, Ogygia, trapped by a Calypso who is in deep love with Odysseus. All Odysseus wants is to go home to his wife and son. Meanwhile, at his palace, suitors have taken over and seek for Odysseus's wife, Penelope's hand in marriage. Penelope, however, stays loyal to Odysseus. Odysseus's son, Prince Telemachus, wants so badly to throw the suitors out of his palace, but he is not well prepared to so something like that. What Prince Telemachus does not know, is that one of the suitors, Antinous, wants to kill him. Antinous wants to make
sure there is not air next in line for the thrown so that Penelope would have to marry. Gods and Goddess's are deciding Odysseus's destiny, Althena, really supports Odysseus so she goes to help his son, Prince Telemachus. She disguises herself as a friend of Prince Telemachus's grandfather and helps the Prince face the suitors. She has Prince Telemachus go on a journey to Pylos and Sparta, which is where Odysseus has friends from the war. Prince Telemachus's mission is to tell Odysseus's friends that Odysseus is alive. Zeus sends Hermes, his messenger, to help Odysseus get home. Hermes tries to convince the Calypso to let Odysseus return home. The Calypso agrees to let Odysseus return home so he gets on a ship and starts his journey home. On his journey, the God of Sea (Poseidon) sends a storm to Odysseus. Poseidon is angry with Odysseus because Odysseus made Poseidon's son go blind. Althena saves Odysseus from the storm. Odysseus finds himself at Scheria land of the Phaecians. Nausicaa, the princess of that land, takes him to her palace and the Queen and King agrees to help him on his journey home.
