Friendship can be a key factor to a lot of people’s lives. Many people rely on friends to be there when they need help, to listen when one needs to speak, to share the greatness of their lives, and to have a connection with one other than oneself to create a barrier from loneliness. Friendship builds characteristics and a form of love in one’s heart creating a simulant for happiness and joy in people. Without friendship, one may feel lonely and isolated from the world, unloved, and unworthy. Friends can be believed to be the person that gives you love unlike any other. Steinbeck portrays friendship as a factor that can keep people’s life in line, as well as, being able to show the desire and greatness one has with a friend even when there’s no attitude striving to be social and accept others. Steinbeck shows an ideal friendship using George and Lennie. George and Lennie stick together all time, keeping each other in line. George feels the responsibility of taking care of Lennie as his own. Never leaving his side, George ignores all troubles and comments he gets to show that friendships are benefitting to life. This is portrayed in Crook. He is lenient on the people he chooses to talk to and is very untrustworthy. He has anger built up from not being able to express himself freely without judgment. What a friend can offer. He shows excitement about being able to get a house on a small ranch because it gave him hope and an opportunity to build a comforting relationship. Crook’s ideal life was then shot down when Curley’s wife was explaining what she could do to one. Without a friend to talk to, he was left to his own thoughts building u negativity and keeping to himself bringing him
