THE O.J. SIMPSON TRIAL

On June 12,1994, Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were murdered. Their bodies were discovered outside Nicole Simpson's condominium. Nicole Simpson was the estranged wife of the famous football player and T.V. star O.J. Simpson. The people directly involved with this case are Judge Lance Ito, the prosecution lawyers, Marcia Clark and Christopher Darden, the defense lawyers, Johnnie Cochran, Robert Shapiro and Robert Blasier , the jury and the defendant, O.J. Simpson. The families of the victims have also been present in the courtroom, as well as other spectators and news media. This case has heard one hundred and twenty witnesses over a nine month period. The prosecution's physical evidence includes a bloody glove, bloody socks, hair, and fibres and a trail of blood drops connecting the crime scene and O.J.'s estate. Defence lawyers say this physical evidence means nothing because it was either purposely tainted or contaminated. Kenneth Berris testified that two laundry bags are still missing from Simpson's Chicago hotel room. The bloody clothes and murder weapon have never been found. The prosecution says DNA tests place Simpson's genetic markers on the drops of blood leading away from the bodies. There were also blood samples, similar to Simpson's and the victims, found on O.J.'s Bronco truck. Simpson's blood was also found on his driveway and his foyer. The prosecution says Simpson cut his hand during the murder. The defence says Simpson cut his hand when he reached for his phone in his Bronco and later cut his hand on a glass. The main focus of the defence is the contamination of physical evidence. Roger Martz testified, for the prosecution, that the blood he tested contained no significant amounts of EDTA. He said the blood found at the crime scene didn't come from a test tube with special preservatives used at a crime lab. Defence lawyer Robert Blazier filed papers stating that Roger

The same brand of duct tape was found on a gas can at the Anthony family home (“Casey Anthony Falls Ill After Caylee Skull Pics Shown”). Because of the skeletal remains, it is hard to determine the exact position of the tape. The defense presented its own forensic interpretation. Dr. Werner Spitz, a forensic scientist who has contributed expert opinion in several cases including the O. J Simpson trial, believes the tape was attached to the body after the skin and muscle decomposed. He stated that the tape was placed there to hold the decomposing mandible in place (“Caylee Anthony’s Autopsy Was ‘Shoddy’”). Another theory is the mandible remained affixed to the body long enough for the mat to form because the skull was held in place by the swamp muck in which Caylee was buried. But, if the muck was indeed responsible for the mandible still being attached than it would have also held the duct tape in place unless the skull was moved significantly. The movement of the skull is not supported by any evidence (“Casey Anthony: Challenging the Duct Tape”). The defense argued that due to the state of decomposition, it cannot be proven that the tape was affixed to the body nor, if it were, where it was attached. However, the defense was unable to provide a reasonable theory as to why the duct tape was found with the body nor any plausible supposition as to how the mandible…

Avery's lawyers argue that this vial was used to plant the blood in Halbach's car in the 2007 case. Police claimed that they found a key to Halbach's SUV in Avery's home. But the key was only found after multiple searches, and contained only Avery's DNA, not Halbach's even though Halbach would have used the key for years. Avery's defense also argues that the key was planted and raising questions. Law enforcement officials also said that they found a bullet with Halbach's DNA on it in Avery's garage, arguing that its evidence that Avery shot and killed Halbach in there. But, if that is possible, why couldn't police find any other sign of Halbach's DNA in there. Tests found no signs of EDTA, an anticoagulant used to preserve the blood in Avery's vial, in the blood found in Halbach's SUV. The prosecution used this finding as proof that the blood found in Halbach's SUV was not the same as the blood found in Avery's vial. But a forensic expert testified for the defense that the test for EDTA is so faulty that a finding of no EDTA could also mean the test wasn't good enough. But, the prosecution was built mainly on the testimony of Brendan Dassey, Avery's nephew. Supposedly he idallegedly helped Avery kill Halbach. The prosecution announced Dassey's supposed confession in a big press…

It was stated that the prosecution was not able to present neither a murder weapon nor an eye witness at the trial. They also brought up that the DNA evidence could have been contaminated while in the lab. The way in which the victims were killed was consisted with those related to drug crimes, since they allegedly befriended a person that owed money to Columbian drug traffickers. Most importantly, OJ Simpson was physically unable to commit a crime of that sort because Ronald was a young man that would put up a fight, while OJ was a middle-aged man that suffered from chronic arthritis. Lastly, the single dark glove found t the crime scene was unable to fit OJ’s…
