Students are immersed in the living history of the fair with additional educational activities planned that will entertain the students but will also educate them. Students from around the state attend the fair to study life in the Middle Ages. Actors portray King Edward III and Queen Philippa, in 1360, as they visit the town of Avalon for the first market of the spring. The actors began their performance by telling the students about how England just signed a treaty with France to end the Hundred Year War and how the black plague has been eradicated for its countryside. My parents would take my sister and me to the fair each spring. One of first memories of the fair is being carried around of my father’s shoulders and wondering why everyone was dressed so funny. The last Medieval Fair that I attended with my family was my senior year in high school. I wasn’t too thrilled to visit the same old fair again but went anyways because I was told we would go to Red Robin afterwards.
