There will always be a separation of opinions on how and when life was created on Earth. There have many studies that confront the difference and viewpoints of creation of the earth and life. The two different views are supported by scientific evidence and the book of Scriptures. Christians believe that God created everything on Earth within six days in which is supported by the Bible. For example, in Genesis 1:31 says, “God saw all that He made, and it was very good” (New International Version). However, many individuals voice their opinion by believing and supporting the old-earth secular view. These individuals believe that everything came from a cloud of dust and gas which is supported by the nebular hypothesis. This view is supported by scientist and their research that gives scientific evidence. When it comes to identifying an opinion …show more content…
within these views it is merely up to what individuals’ belief or what they trust in the most to be right. This comparative essay will focus on the original of creation of the Earth by comparing the Nebular Hypothesis (Old-Earth Secular Viewpoint) and the Six-Day Creation (Young-Earth Viewpoint).
Old-Earth Secular Viewpoint
The old-earth secular viewpoint consists of the viewpoints of the nebular hypothesis.
The nebular hypothesis is supporting facts on how the earth was created. This hypothesis dates to many centuries ago (Bracher, 2006). Old-Earth Secular scientists believe that the creation of earth is tied to the formation of the solar system. “According to Dai Wensai’s nebular hypothesis, the formation of the Earth was closely related to the formation of the solar system, which can be described as primordial nebular-protoplanetary disckonisphere-planetesimal-planet” (Wang and Geng, 2015, p. 3530). In addition, the nebular viewpoint shows the solar system and earth being created by a cloud of dust from the energy of circulation and gas. This circulation of cloud of dust, gas, heat, gravity, and energy formed the sun, moon, and stars. Thomas (2015) stated in his article, “According to the nebular hypothesis, the solar system’s planets formed from a condensing, swirling cloud of dust called a nebula” (p. 1). However, many scientists argue against the nebular hypothesis and believe that the earth was not created by the
nebular. Young-Earth Viewpoint
There are many individuals who support the young-earth version of creation. Those young-earth believers believe in the supportive evidence of scripture from Bible. These individuals believe in God. These Christian individuals believe that the heavens and earth was created in the beginning by God. These individuals believe that everything was created within six-days within a twenty-four-hour time frame (Genesis 1-31, New International Version). The words evenings and mornings were used within Genesis in which shows the separation of each day (Genesis 1:5). Genesis 1:6-8, explains that the sky was called a dome. Genesis clearly says that God made the sun, moon, stars, and light (Genesis, 1:14-18).
Many scientist have tried to incorporate the old earth viewpoint with the new earth viewpoint of the creation of Earth. According to Morris (1998), “Many theologians, under the mistaken impression that scientists had proved it, rushed to incorporate an old Earth into Scripture, hoping to maintain credibility with secular scientists” (p. 1). Thus, because many theologians mix the views Scripture suffers and causes many individuals to become confuse on what is scientific belief and what is the supported within Scripture. Comparison
The young and new earth viewpoints have been argued and debated over the years about evolution and creation of earth. This is because many individuals question the truth of the creation of earth. The six-day creation and nebular hypothesis viewpoints have more differences than similarities. Contrast the Viewpoints
The main difference would be that individuals who believe in the nebular hypothesis in which everything was created with a large nebular of dust. They believe that the solar system was the original source of all creation. However, the young earth viewers believe in God who created human life, all other living, and non-living things. Genesis 1:6-8, explains that the sky was called a dome and was created by God. In which the old-earth viewers believe that the nebular of dust formed within the solar system. Morris, H (2015), “Yet because evolutionary “science” has alleged that the earth is billions of years old, multitudes of evangelicals have fallen in line, rejecting God’s plain statement of fact and then trying to find some interpretive loophole to hide behind” (p. 1). The young and old earth viewers have a difference in opinion on the time frame in which earth was created. According to Hebert, J. (2014), “Many scientifically trained Christians are urging the church to accept the doctrine of an old earth, saying that the arguments for a 4.6-billion-year-old earth are simply to numerous and convincing to deny” (p. 1). However, depending on the viewpoints, there is a big difference of time of either thousands or billions of years, ago. Comparing the Viewpoints
These two viewpoints have some similarities. The first similarity would be the fact that the both views believe that in the beginning there was nothing. The second similarity would be that both view that life was created. They believe that nonliving and living things in life was created by either science or by God. They believe in time and the beginning of time. In 1 Corinthians 2:7 says, “No we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began.” This would be before everything else was created thousands of years by God. The nebular hypothesis describes time that was created billions of years before God. However, those who view the young earth and not old earth believe that there is a separation on interpretation and those ideas should not be blended. According to Morris, H. (1998), “One may gain scientific credibility among the secularists by twisting Scripture to fit science, but it would be better to honor God by believing His word” (p. 2). In addition, the young and old secular viewpoints of the six-day creation and the nebular hypothesis both believe that there was a special creation and formation of life. Lastly, they two viewpoints both believe that the views are creditable because they are support by either science or by Scripture. However, it is ultimately up to individuals to decide what is in fact the truth behind the creation of the earth. Conclusion In conclusion, the young and old earth viewpoints of the creation of earth has supportive evidence. The six-day creation and the nebular hypothesis describes two separate viewpoints on how the earth was created. It is important to compare the evidence to separate and strengthen the viewpoints. There are several differences within those who believe in both viewpoints. However, there is also similarities among the viewpoints. One similarity would be the fact that both believe that there was nothing including life before earth was created. One difference was that the nebular hypothesis believes in the earth being created within the solar system rather than within in the six-day creation theory from God. Many Christians, believe that there should be a separation from the nebular hypothesis and other scientific beliefs. Overall, within this article the two viewpoints of the young and old earth was examined and compared in which is supported by scientific evidence and the book of Scriptures. It is up to individuals to decide what is the truth behind of the creation of earth, rather it be a either be the scientist or biblical principles of the Bible.
